The son borrowed my last one for a scout camp - came back looking like it had been dragged through the fields and then left it festering, couldn't use it after that.

Thanks for sharing I've bought one and it's on it's way :)

Thanks for the Backpack link, got one too, cant say no for that price, and the misses keeps telling me to get rid of my current burgundy backpack, says it ruins my look when I get on a sportsbike in full leathers and a horrible burgundy backpack on :D
 
Are they waterproof? don't really want my college work/laptop getting ruined! My current waterproof backpack is airtight and floats but its a little inconvenient!

Probably not fully, but most decent bags will cope with a little rain.

You could get a "Gelert 24-45l waterproof rucksack/backpack rain cover" to go with it.
