Okay, i got a new headset today: Cosonic CD-828MV. It has a 3.5mm plug for mic and one for speaker. I've set it up and everything. I have a PCI sound card as well and an onboard one. The plugs for the headset are quite big so what i have done is the mic for the headset is in the PCI card (SB Live!) and the earphones on the headset is in the mobo (C-Media Wave) I also have my desktop speakers plugged into the PCI card ( SB LIVE).

Okay, so when i open source, and talk, people can hear me, however, when they speak to me, i hear them through the speakers (desktop ones) not the headset. Is there anyway to fix this problem? If so people reply asap. Thanks

In XP, in control panel, go to the audio section. There you should have the option which input you want and what output to select.

Ie select your headphones or computer speakers as output.

hmm, if you do get another headset in the future or are able to return yours and trade them for a diff one.

I would definately recommend the USB platronics ones.

Usb connection has saved me so much hassle.

In the playback default device, if you click on the drop down what other options do you get if any ?
For the Sound Playback option i get: SB live or C-Media. SB live is my PCI card, and C-Media is my Mobo. My desktop speakers are plugged into the PCI card while the headset earphones are plugged into the mobo. So i'm guessing i should keep that on SB Live.

Choose c media and it will output to ** headphones.

Also teamspeak should have it own inbuilt option to do this.

Also if i choose Cmedia the voice is through my headset which is what i want, however the game sounds are also through my headset. I want the game sounds through my desktop speakers.

Unfortunately Im pretty sure it can't be done. Source treats all the game sounds the same, if you wanted the voice to be seperate, it would have to be done inside the game. If I were you, I would use the headset for both game sounds and voice.

Do any of the following allow you to separate the game sounds and voice?

BF2142
Call of Duty 2
C&C3

Not sure on any of those, the best way would be to use another program like Teamspeak or Ventrilo, these both should let you change the output channel.
Will every server have a Teamspeak channel? :S Sorry about this, im a bit of a noob.

No worries mate. No, teamspeak is a seperate program specifically for voice communications so not every server will have a teamspeak server. Quite a few do though and most adertise this on the server itself.

If it is only your friends you are talking with then you could use a program like skype which I find works well.
