Headset for my son

Hi guys, haven't posted for a while. So my son who is aged 8 is getting extremely interested in PC gaming. I gave him my old PC about 3 years back and now he is using keyboard and mouse for everything, he has even started to type without looking haha. Anyway, so he wants to start doing lets play videos for Youtube, so I have set him an account up for this but the headset that he has been using was a crappy cheap one that I got off fleabay years back. So really I am just looking for a headset, nothing overly expensive but must have a microphone and be good enough to last him. It will be plugged into onboard. Just hoping for some recommendations please, I don't want to buy something that is crappy. Thanks guys.

Yeah, I've got the original cloud, and it's quite nice. The Cloud 2 is USB IIRC.

Feels sturdy and well made, sounds OK (not transparent or audiophile quality, but good for gaming with good details), the mic is OK, it's comfy, comes with a whole bunch of extra stuff, it's well presented, I can recommend for the price. Swapping ear pads can be a pain, and it's probably something you'll want to do (I much prefer the cloth ones than the leather).

If you spend more, you can probably get better, or even some Antlion setup.

Thanks guys, I have managed to pick up a Mad Catz Tritton Pro+ off fleabayfor £25, it's a refurb but I have bought off this person before and all was good. My friend has this headset and I remember he paid well over £100 new for it.

Will be able to get quite a bit of Mad Catz stuff for cheap ish for a while now i believe, didn't the company just file bankruptcy?

I always did like my rat 7 contagion. Shame i destroyed it.

Not sure mate, but the headset I got has excellent reviews. Made up with the price. They have some more available too, he has sold 192 of them. Maybe that is why it is so cheap, if they filed bankruptcy. I have had R.A.T mice in the past also, loved them.

Well, when comparison pont is other bling bling junk, if even that, cheap junk tends to get high ratings.
Headphone design doesn't differ really much from loudspeaker design with need to tune driver and enclosure to work together to have in any way balanced or good sound.
And that's always challenge with just one element in there...
Doubt with that garbage truck load of cheapest Chinese drivers those could stand up to cheap Superluxes.

But at least you got it for what is likely closer to real cost without excessive gaming brand profit margins.

Anyway, so he wants to start doing lets play videos for Youtube, so I have set him an account up for this
So wouldn't it be now time to start advertising?:p

Something you should also get him is a decent stand for the headset. I like the clear acrylic ones shaped like a capital omega.

The Madcatz headset arrived this morning and I am pleasantly surprised at the quality of the audio, I would even say it is better than both my AKG and Beyerdynamics. Really nice looking headset too, very very happy with this, going to get another to replace my headphones. This is the headset I got him http://www.trittonaudio.com/prod/proplus.php.
Edit - Just ordered another for myself.[/QUOTE

....

don't say the sound better than real headphones.....esat will blow a fuse and tell you straight off.......lol

Haha, it's true mate. The sound quality is miles better. Have been using headphone for quite a long time now, but will use both headphones and headset now.

I'm willing to bet £1000 they sound considerably worse than AKG's and Beyerdynamics unless you have one of their budget headphones.

Your comparing Rolls Royce (AKG) with a Fiesta (Madcatz).

Your hearing might just be terrible, or your sound card doesn't have the power required to drive a decent set of headphones. You will need a proper amp for AKG's whereas madcatz will run off a phone jack.

I don't buy "budget" anything. I have a pair of these https://www.overclockers.co.uk/akg-k712-pro-reference-studio-headphones-sp-004-ak.html .A few of my mates have come over and they agree the Madcatz are considerably better sound quality. Each to their own, these AKG are getting sold. Tried the AKG on my brothers PC who has an Amp and the works, there is an improvement defo, but not to the standard of the headset imo. And just so you know my hearing is spot on.
All sorted anyways, Admin can close thread please now that we have our gear.

Dude you just don't get it.....you are not allowed to compare headsets to headphones. Some users of this forum will not stand for it.....lol....anyway chap if they sound good to you that's all that matters....cheers enjoy you new headset.
