Morning people.

I'm on the lookout for a gaming headset for what I think is the first time ever. I've made do with whatever comes in the box until now, but I'm after something a bit more durable and just generally better. Comfort, better sound, if at all possible some sort of 5.1/7.1 processing depending on whether it will work with both machines etc are all on the list, but I'm struggling to find something that I know will work well.

I've been recommended the HyperX Cloud 2 headset, but it doesn't seem to have any sort of volume control if you don't use the USB dongle thing which I obviously won't be. I'd have liked a volume/mute rocker unless I'm having a senior moment and just not seeing it.

Thoughts? Looking to spend sub-£50 if possible. Certainly sub-£100 though.

Also realise this might be in the wrong sub-forum, please move if required!

Thanks all.

It's not surround but I use brought the SoundblasterX H5 headset which works with phone, PC, Xbone, PS4 and the sound is very good. Got them from OcUK for £80 although I did have to return the first pair. The connection is a 4 pole 3.5mm connection for console and phone and and extension cord that spilts into audio and mic so 2 x 3.5mm jacks.

i use sony wireless headset on both console, but need 3.5 mm socket on xbox controller to work.

Yeah I've seen a couple of people using that. I'd need the adapter for the Xbox but that's not a problem. Does it do the simulated surround on the Xbox as well? Assumed it was just the PS4.

you won't be getting 5.1 processing without wires & usb dongles. Doing away with these (ie wireless) and asking for 5.1 will put you above your £100 absolute max.

Bit of advice. I've tired headsets at this price point. They break, they're crap and not worth it. I'd be willing to bet you're contemplating buying a premium one within the next 6 months or so of buying this one just like I (and many others) have. My Astro a40 + mixamp I got for Xbox 360 is still serving me well now on PS4 many years later.

As above for sub £50 you will not be getting anything good.

I'd also recommend the Astro A40 or A50's... I've been using them for years and they worked with everything from my old 360/PS3 to the new Xbone/PS4 and PC. Decent sound can add so much to a game I think it's worth it.
