Headset for Xbox 360 Wireless or wired?

Having just picked up GTA V yesterday for the 360 I'm now looking to grab a headset of some sort to use when playing it. But I'm not sure what to buy. I don't want to spend an absolute fortune so something inexpensive at the lower end of the market is preferable. Around the £20-£35 area. Having Googled headsets it appears that most of the ones designed primarily with PC's in mind won't work on the 360?

Also, I'm not sure whether to try a wireless pair or a wired set. The issue with a wired set is the setup I've got in our living room, the Xbox and TV are at one side and the sofas are about 5 meters away on the other side of the room so cable length would be an issue. Hence looking at wireless kit. Or would it be possible to get an extension lead of some sort to use a wired set with? If so what sort of cable, a USB extension lead? I'm not totally sure where a wired headset connects on a 360, is it the USB ports or elsewhere? I'm also thinking a headset with a mic built in would be handy in case I decided to get into GTA:O at some point.

Apologies for the wall of questions, any advice appreciated. Ta. :)

No real answer as I've only used the bundled headset, but you've reminded me that I really need to check my headset actually works!

The old school wireless official one is good, the new one is crap
The bundled one is uncomfortable but works, something like the old halo 2 headset is better.

Thanks. I've just had another Google and read something about 360 headsets which connect to the controller. Could someone clarify how that works for me? Does that mean you don't have a cable trailing all the way over the room to the console but instead the headphones plug into the controller? Or am I missing something there?

For talking you need a cable (supplied with the X12's) to connect to the underside of the controller. If you don't want to talk you simply don't connect that cable.

There is still a cable going to the console for the sound to the headphones.

Cool, cheers. I got kinda confused there!. I keep reading reviews of the X12 and the XL1 setups and see people mention that you need some sort of adapter to connect them up to a 360 which doesn't come in the box? I connect my 360 to my TV via component cables so I don't know if that makes any difference?

I see the X12's come with a 16ft cable which would be perfect, can you remember if the XL1's you had also had a lengthy cable? A local PC store near me has XL1's for £15.99, is ther emuch of a difference between the X12's and the what looks like to be previous model, XL1's?

Didn't have the XL1 I had the X11, the cable was very lengthy.

The adaptor people are talking about is possibly the cable to connect the headset to the xbox, as you will need a splitter with the audio outs on it.

I have the x12s and find them pretty damn good for both PC and 360. Everything needed to connect to the360 and use voice chat came in the box for me. II'm no audiophile but I think the sound quality is very good and I even use them on the PC for music.

I only sit about 6 feet from the TV so the wires aren't too annoying but they are very long so distance shouldn'tbe a matter.

Thanks folks, think I'm going to nip out and grab the XL1's, purely since they are a bit of a steal at £15.99. I've read some reviews on them and they appear to be fairly well regarded.

Right, picked up a pair of XL1's. Haven't had a chance to try them yet but can someone in the know answer a question? The red and white jacks on the XL1 cable - where does it plug into? I've got what looks like audio out jacks on the side of my TV, do they plug in there? Or do I plug the XL1 cable 'inline' into the leads coming from the Xbox prior to them entering the TV jacks on the rear?
