Hi all

I am looking for a recommendation for a headset for xbox (I have separate one for PC) I currently have a set of turtle beach (can’t remember model but a cheap one) which for the price they were I can’t complain about but they are coming apart now so want to get a new one. Searching around here it seems the two that get most recommended is the Astro A40 with mixamp or the Sennheiser PC360 with Astro Mixamp. I am leaning towards the Astro A40’s as one order and all made to match and even if they do give a little away in sound quality to the sennheissers it is going to be much better than the Turtle beach’s. I assume the recommendations for the A40 + Mixamp is for the mixamp pro not mixamp 5.8 though looking through specs of both I can’t actually see a difference.

A query for anyone who used the optical out for the A40’s, when you plug in the optical out for the headset does it cut off the sound to the TV? When using a headset I mute the TV however I have a capture card which uses component cable pass throughs to capture the video and sound so hopefully it doesn’t cut the sound to the tv.

There are two sticking points for me though-

Firstly – The price, I don’t mind paying for a quality headset and if they are that good and are going to last then it is an investment as they should be future compatible. It is the dilemma of are they really twice as good as headset half their price.

Secondly – The one thing I do like about the turtle beach is separate volume controls for the game and voice, where as I notice that the mix amp combines them to turn one up you have to turn the other down. How do people cope with finding a good balance between game and chat volume?

Thanks for replies, Greboth.

Well thats one less problem to think about then :) thoughI might have to get even more creative with cables.

By all the pictures and reviews I have seen they detail the one dial as effectively a master volume while the other controls the mix of voice and game with volume controls running opposite ways so I took it as you turn, say, voice up you have to turn the game down. If this isnt how it works then there are some misleading reviews out there.

I have been considering the mixamp and pc360's as read a review saying the a40 isn't all that comfortable for larger heads. Also I have seen enough comments on something breaking. I am looking at the zesty 360 place as they sell both the mixamp and pc360s so only one delivery but they dont have any pc360s in stock.

Kreeeee: How long have youd had the headset? and how is it holding up to that use?

Final question, with the mixamp and pc360 it is just a normal 3.5mm splitter you need isn't it?

Edit: Nevermind just saw thry give you a splitter with the mixamp so dont need to get a sperate one.
