Headset sound quality

Just got a creative headset along with the x-fi fatal1ty. I was wondering if it would make a difference if i plugged it in to the headset port on my speakers, or if i should plug it in directly into the sound card. Will the sound quality vary?

What speakers do you have?

I'd plug it straight into the sound card front bay.

I have the logitech X-230, i dont have a front bay with the x-fi fatality. so does it make a difference?
