Hi,

A while ago I noticed a headset which allowed you to hear yourself (played mic back to you in real time), so you don't end up shouting / talking loud, but can't find it.

Anyone know any like this?

Don't buy a closed headset, should be able to hear yourself somewhat (they're the headsets which 'leak' sound intentionally). I'm pretty sure there's a setting which allows you to do this anyway even with closed headsets.

if you want to monitor yourself in your headset do the following:

rightclick the sound icon in the bottom right of your screen
go to recording devices

right click your microphone

go to the listen tab

check the 'listen to this device' box and select your headphones from the dropdown below.

then apply

This will give you realtime monitoring of your mic :)

works on any headset or audio&microphone combo

i normally do it to set up the mic then disable it and forget about it.

I hate this too, finding a headset that doesnt sound like you've got you fingers in your ears can be hard due to the open or closed type of sets !

The one I found the best is the Senneiser PC360 or G4ME one, they are on the high end of price but very good & one of the best parts about these is hte Mute & Vol is on the headset so no trying to find the part on the cord...

Good finds but double what I'd want to pay for a headset unfortunately. I haven't tried the mic tweak yet but will also look out for others that have 'open' ear bits on them, does seem there are a few around after all.

Duke - it's just a setting in the sound properties (as mentioned a couple of posts above) assuming it's not got silly delay on it (depends on headset/soundcard) it's available with any mic plugged in.

Right click the speaker icon in system tray, select recording devices, double click the microphone, select the "listen" tab, click "listen to this device".

Done. If you've discounted that for some reason I missed it.

Tried it but there is a slight delay unfortunately :( Think I might need to look at the open headsets just so my ears aren't completely closed in.

The Tritton Pro+ has a button on the lead for this, built in the volume thingy. My old pair of Tritton's had it too it's brilliant when waiting for the pizza man :D

£140+ :( Will keep searching and might end up having to actually buy a decent pair one day. My current ones are just £20-30 jobbys.

Plantronics Gamecom 780's are an open ear set, not sure about the 788's.

The 780's are still available though, plenty of reviews too.

Thanks for that. I've got the cheap 380s at the moment which look at least identical to the 780 except it isn't surround sound. How do you know its open ear?

** No competitor hinting thank you **

Also check out the Sennheiser PC310 Headset as well.

I did search for that originally but only expensive ones came up. Might give the PC310 a look, its a bit like my old headset before I had this enclosed type but not quite so uncomfortable looking.
