headunit max £150

I'd pick alpine over pioneer. I've got the IDA-X305 and it's such a great headunit, the X311 is pretty much the same thing. There is the downside of no cd mechanism, but I haven't used a cd in my car for a long time, everything is played through my iPod.

spoken with caraudiodirect.co.uk and they said the pioneer is better if using usb, as usb navigation is better. although they could have said that because the pioneer is a bit more cash! lol

I wish I'd have got that Alpine, chose a Kenwood for a change. It plays from USB sticks but has no random play, just a bit pants really.

Hehe yes I do have a bad taste in music.

Ive not tried a USB stick to be honest, everything is on my ipod so ive had no reason to try. By the looks of things it doesnt list by track number, it seems to chuck eveything in alphabetical unless its a playlist, in which case the tracks will stay in the order of the playlist.

yeah, ive got an 8044u and that doesnt have an all-random feature from usb either (though it does from an ipod?) silly really, but ive never play random track so i didnt even till i went looking yesterday :p

Hmm, the Kenwood looks good to me.
But I think out of the two you originally linked the Apline is better - much crisper sound quality

so you cannot search a usb drive for a track based on artist/song title etc?

Is the Alpine in the second link compatible with the iPhone 3GS? I've searched on a few sites and none have it listed (jut spretty much every other iPod ever) although one I found says it'll work with the iTouch G2? Can anyone confirm for me as I'm pretty much sold on getting one providing it will work with both my Nano and iPhone.

According to the manual (http://www.alpine-electronics.co.uk...car_audio_manuals/iDA-X311/OM_iDA-X311_EN.pdf) It looks as though it's only the model up, which is either the X313 or the X305, that will work with the iPhone.

OK thanks for that. Any other makes/models that I could look at in regards to having a rear usb (so I can have device in glove box) that copes with the iphone 3GS and doesn't break the bank (under £200) or is the Alpine X313 about the best it gets?

(Sorry to hijack thread).
