Anyone have any?
I used to eat the "fabulous Bakin boys golden oaties" and really liked them.
I am looking for something similar - but healthy or healthier.
I was reading something earlier about replacing half of the butter with apple puree which sounds pretty good, add in a handful of raisins and should be good but just wondered if anyone has tried and tested.

People typically get jumped on for the belief that saturated fat is bad for you. Butter, for example, isn't...and arguably if you replace it with something high in sugar (e.g. apple purée) you're significantly increasing the sugar content of the food. As flapjacks are already high in sugar this arguably would make them less healthy, not more.

Hopefully people can feed back with constructive advice rather than completely jumping down your throat on this.

I personally haven't had much luck with flapjack recipes so I don't have much to suggest, aside from not worrying about the sugar and butter content (they're flapjacks after all - they're never going to be "healthy") and making sure you stick in a good handful of nuts and dried fruit.

This one is quite good

My girlfriend tends to make lots of "healthy" snacks.

Lots of dates, nuts, protein powders, pure cacoa powder among other ingredients.

I'll try and dig out the recipes but these chocolate protein balls she made the other day were absolute fantastic and not really "bad" for you as such.

Someone recently bought us a tin with various treats in it. I was genuinely shocked by the flapjack nutritional information. Enough calories to cover a couple of meals.

You look at it and think it will be healthy, given all the oats but my goodness there's a lot of sugar in those things.

mmm oaty, sugary, buttery goodness.

Absolutely perfect if you're off climbing mountains or trekking to the north pole, not so good if you only get as far as to the office toilet and back a couple of times a day.

Thanks for the recipe etc...
I was just thinking it would be a case of throwing some oats in a bowl with a spoon or two of honey, half a handful of raisins and then in the oven for 10 mins to set.
I really should learn to cook/bake.
