I've just posted another thread as I'm looking at getting a turbo trainer, which is new territory for me, and I'm unsure as to whether a heart rate monitor would be worthwhile so I can "gauge" how my workout is going. Or am I better just going off feel like I would on a proper ride?

Thanks in advance.

Honestly? No idea. I've never cycled indoors before so I thought I'd ask the question since I will mostly use it for quick blasts in an evening after work when the weather is rubbish, so I wasn't sure the best way to make use of my time/energy.

It depends. If you're trainer supports power readings with Trainer Road then I wouldn't necessarily bother with a HRM. If it doesn't then I'd definitely get one. I know people who swear by just training on 'feel' but it's a bit too subjective for my liking.

Get a HRM & SC sensor.~£50
Get a ANT+ USB. ~£24
Get TrainerRoad. ~£6/pm

I use my HR reading when on the Turbo and learning my zones has helped me when out on the road/climbing hugely.
