As the title says really, what would the heat and battery life be like in a laptop?

Im guessing it would be extremely hot - or due to the newer lower nm gpus and cpus, has that sorted the heat issues out?

With a 8800m gtx in a machine, what sort of temp do you think you would see? Anyone know what heat you get in a 8600gt 8700gt and a 7950gtx?

Also what would the battery be like? Say if I was just wanting to be browsing on the internet, would it still be using the full power from my gfx card and stuff? The new alienware m15x has a thing called stealth mode where it reduces the speed to increase battery life. Can others do something similar?

Thanks guys, any help would be superb :)

Really difficult questions. It does appear most are failry well sorted on the heat front. The bad part of that is the potential noise of the fans.

Battery life however is never going to be fantastic.....

The m15x can turn off its 8800 or 8700 and run on an integrated chipset for stuff like web browsing to reduce power.

1 hour ? 2 hours on a great day ? probably something in between.

Battery life on mine 1 to 1.5 hours.

Temps under load 60-80 degrees.

Gaming - Can never come off mains. Be lucky to get 30 minutes.

When you're gaming fans have to be going at 100% otherwise you'll soon be feeling the heat on your wrists.
