Hi guys,

Looking to do some cable sleeving on my next build.
I was wondering if any of you have suggestions of what kind of heat gun would be best?
Don't want something to big or expensive.
there seems to be loads of options out there.
Just a nice small one that will do the job.

So can any one recommend a good make?

Thanks :D

I'm not sure what the rules are on linking out to other sources,

However there is a Twin Speed Multi Purpose Heat Gun, located on qvc for £11.75, the only reason i suggest this is i've seen my mother use it (for crafts instead evidently). And it's been going strong for years, but i'm not sure if that's cheap or expensive in comparison to others you've seen.

OH...and it's candy pink ^^

Would like to know who isnt classed as a competitor. Like theres a second hand red gameshop who mainly do games, dvds and mobile phones and the slightest bit of pc hardware. Its also all second hand so surely is catering for a different market.

THAT auction site is cagey as its full of retailers selling new items.

Dont think theres any issues listing hardware/DIY places as they arent competitors (being the prime word). Its just places who sell the same or similar product ranges that arent allowed (although it does make it hard when you want an opinion on an item that isnt even sold here....)

candle

hold the heatshrink about 2 inches from the flame and let it slowly shrink.

means you have both hands free and gives a better finish :)

the best place to get candles is www.candles.com

they have a wide range of candles that will suit your needs.

I use a lighter that I picked up from the pound shop, it's a big cooker/fire lighter thing that is about 300mm long. Just use the heat from the flame and not the flame itself and you get good controllable shrinkage. Actually got 2 of them for a pound so true cost just 50p and it doubles as an actual fire lighter, which is nice.

The candle method sounds good. Any specific candle you like to use or just any old candle?

i like to go ahead and get a cinnamon scented one, kind of reminds me of christmas time. just sort of gives me a warm feeling inside whilst braiding cables.

its pretty time consuming so its best not to get too relaxed :)

lol. Where is the thread for the best candle for shrinking heatshrink wrap. Halloween is coming I say go for some pumpkin candles. Though vanilla is nice.
