Heat pipes

Does anyone know where I can buy heat pipes? I've found one or two places but they've not had exactly what I want (8mm * 100mm would be ideal) and are quite exspensive, approx £20 per pipe, or want me to buy 100 at a time. So I'm hoping someone here may be able to point me in the right direction.

Reason I need them? Im thinking about doing a case mod that will require me to build a custom CPU cooler and I want to make sure I can source all the bits before I start.

Any help is much appreciated.
 
I dont want 100 heat pipes, I only want 4 and maybe 2 test pipes. Some of the retailers I have found will only sell them in quantities of 100 :)

Sourced a few off old dead mobos.
not that easy to straighten them - but adding bends is easy.

As a second option google 'mCubed Spare Heatpipe D6 Middle'
Or any of the borgFX kit from mcubed, the Heatpipe Extension Set may be just what you need.

Thanks for the offer fella that's very generous of you, I'm going to see if I can straighten a couple I've scavanged first and if that doesn't go well I may drop you a mail.

I've looked at the mCubed and borgFX stuff but they tend to be 6mm pipes which is a bit small for my needs. Still beggers can't be choosers and I may have to go that route.

why not make your own? get down to the plumbers merchents and use8mm or 10mm micro bore copper pipe can buy it by the meter and its soft and flexable to shape as u want it. Been pure copper as well is good for the heat ;)

This is something I've thought about and would do if I could be sure they would be as effective.

From what I understand of heatpipes they have, or can have channels on the inside of the pipe, not sure I could get pipe like that. They have a wick in the centre of the pipe that helps the flow of cooling medium, not sure what to use as wick or how to fix it in the cntre. The cooling medium is put in under prussure or in a vacuum, not sure how I'd go about that. Now I could have all of these things wrong but until I find a very good build your own guide I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I'll be honest I'd rather build my own i'm just not 100% sure how or if I could :)
 
Farnell sell them at a silly price; £7.27 for a 150mm x 8mm heatpipe.

Hope that's okay to post - don't think they're a competitor.

I did see a lnik to somewhere selling them for about a quid each a few weeks back, but can't remember where. :(

Quick follow up question, What generates more heat a CPU or GPU? I know its depends on the GPU and the CPU but for example a C2D8400 and a 5770. Thanks again for the help.

The best way to work that out is on TDP, it's not 100% accurate as the process the chip built on may have had a lot leakage which causes the GPU or CPU to go really hot when idle. Out of those two chips the C2D is 83 watts and the 5770 is 110 watts and given that whilst gaming a video card is typically taxed more then the CPU hence the video card will generate more heat (also take into account that a CPU may not be using all of its cores).
