heat sink missing off chipset?

on my asus p5b duluxe one the heatsinks are missing where i think the previous board owner had snapped it off to use a water cooler on cpu and chipset.

cant find any replacement on the bay so not sure what to do or if i need it

That's the heatsink for the northbridge. Is your board working without it on? Is the northbridge running hot? You can check using HWmonitor.

this it where it gets messy at first i compleatly overlooked it and carryed on trying to over clock my cpu and i get stuck after 332x 9 i thought my cpu is maxing out but im sure this is part of the issue,

or i could be completly wrong is this possible tho ?

will try that now

You can pick up generic heatsinks at any decent electronics store, the heatpipes are a bit of a gimmick anyway.

When you overclock on a LGA775 board like yours - the memory controller is on the northbridge - so as you increase the FSB the northbridge will heat up. If you don't have proper cooling on the northbridge then it may well be a northbridge cooling issue that is limiting your overclocking.

As the guys above mention, It would be a very good idea to get a replacement cooler for the northbridge and the one RJC linked to looks like just the job.

im 100% sure it that thats causing problem cause when i oc i never get blue screen it just turns off randomly

core temps are never above 60 when i try overclock to 366 x 9

as above, get a NB cooler as soon as.
what are you using to stress test your overclock?

reading the customer reviews
"The motherboard has 4 hooks and the fitting of the 2 springs provided (which will only go on 2 of the corners) was no problem."
so it seems so.
also i would presume you would need some thermal paste as well

I've also got one you could have, it's the stock cooler off a P5q deluxe, it's had the heatpipes snipped (i removed to install WC NB)
