how recently did the patent expire? I have it on my 55 plate VW Passat so surely it couldn't have expired that recently?
As has been mentioned, it's been a very nice feature during the winter and with the freezing temperatures. Also helps to de-mist the windscreen very quickly!

Only kidding. I used to drive a Ford, it was great.

What, of their own accord, or when you press the windscreen demist button on the climate control?
If mine comes on when the temp is below 4c, the button certainly doesn't light up

Sad fact time. The heated windscreen was one of the 'comforts' the Ferrari F40 had (along with Air-con). Both are needed!

Had plenty of Audi's too over the years but never one with a heated screen but think its available on some now

In my Focus both front and rear window heaters come on if temp is at 4 deg or less, oh and the lights work on the buttons
Oh should state that this only happens upon starting the car and not whenever driving along and the temp drops.

Yeah, some of the bigger Audi's have it now (standard on A8 i think...?).
Strangely, both my dads older XJs had it (a 2006 and 2008 model) though his new XF does not.
