I've got merino wool glove liners that are meant to have thermal properties which I don't find very effective. They help a little and I'm able to operate my camera with them on. My Thinsulate gloves are better but too thick to use a camera with, and when it's bitterly cold, they're not warm enough. As I get older I guess my circulation isn't what it was.

Has anyone ever bought heated gloves and if so, can you recommend a brand where the heating element covers hand and all fingers? Ideally thinner rather than thicker so that I might be able to operate a camera. The top pick in this article (Dr Warm heated gloves) is unavailable to buy but look like they'd be really good. I suspect I need to spend over £100 for a good pair.

I don't have heated gloves but for photography I use some thin base layer gloves that I can still use my camera in.

Then over the top I have some sealskin fingerless mittens.

So I can cover my hands with the mitten when not using the camera but can quickly flip the mittens over to take a photo.

I went hiking in the snow in Bulgaria in this kit and it was pretty effective.

Yeah, I'm also considering Sealskinz or Vallerret gloves with magnetic foldback index and thumb. And then I could also wear my liners underneath. If warm enough, the fold back fingers would make them more useful for camera operation than heated gloves as I walk regularly for hours with the camera doing street photography. Vallerret are supposedly the best. Although your Sealskinz are fingerless mittens, do you think the materials are generally warmer than regular cheap Thinsulate gloves?

Being mittens I sometimes leave the left mitten on as I'm just using it to support the camera and just open the right mitten to operate the camera.

Very nice. I think if I go for Sealskinz though, I'll get the full fingered with foldback finger sporting gloves for extra warmth.
