Heated seat covers

I love heated seats. I don't love how long mine take to warm up. Mind you I wouldn't 'miss' them. They just add an extra little bit of pleasantness on a freezing cold morning / evening.

IME heated seats take so long to heat up that they are completely pointless, you only notice they are on when you start getting the sensation that you peed yourself.
Never driven a car with a heated steering wheel, didn't even know they existed until my mate got an E500 benz with such a feature. Does sound very good, all wheels seem to stay freezing cold for ages.

This totally depends on the car.
[modern] BMW ones don't take very long at all to reach bum-burning temperatures.

Cars which have a single on/off without different settings are pointless though as they're not really hot enough to be useful IME.

I honestly dont see the point.

I've had heated seats in my previous car, and my parents E60 has them, and I really dont miss them. The seat is warm soon after sitting in it anyway.

What i DO wish I had, and am surpised nobody else ever mentions, is a heated steering wheel!

Got them in the Honda - love them! I honestly wouldn't want another car without them.

Unfortunately, they seem to have a loose connection at the moment, only the back works and it does that intermittently :( bloody typical - AC doesn't work I'm summer, heated seats stop working in winter

I want heated everything. I want the entire car be just like it us when it's 20c outside, the moment I walk up to it. Anything that aids in that endeavour is welcomed by me, whether that be heated screens, steering wheels, seats, electric instant air heat etc.

If your going to have leather then you need heated seats tbh. I love the little heat boost from them while i'm going about my day at work. Dunno about anyone elses experience but to me Volvo's seem to have a very quick heatup and 5 heat settings on the one we had in last week.

When I drove Will Gills 5 Series yesterday, I must admit I got a massive stiffy for the heated seats, especially as it was like 2 degrees.

Even if it is like weeing yourself.

Engine aside, do you now realise why BMW's are obviously the bestest cars ever? Imagine his car but with an engine thats not crap, it's perfection!

I've driven a few BMW's before and Jap/German rivalry aside, it's a very nice car.

It's very difficult for me to not compare it to the Evo, as I appreciate they are about as different as two cars can be, for different audiences.

What I liked:

Very refined engine - I'm used to the engine in question as its the same/similar to my mates E9X 320d Sport. Very difficult to audibly tell it's a diesel when you are on the move. Although the idle gives the game away.

Zero road noise. Tough one for me. Very nice for cruising, but at the same time made me feel something was missing and removed the experience/involvement.

Planted feel. Felt very stable and grippy, if a little high, but again I'm used to low cars.

Leather was nice and the cabin was too - nice place to be. However, you know better than anyone that this doesn't factor high on my list.

Lots of toys, most of which I didn't get to use.

Very solidly built. You know it's a quality car before you've even got in it.

Heated seats - Made me feel like a sell out but I loved them.

What I didn't like:

Biggest thing was steering feel. I hated it. Massive deadzone and very vague. Whereas the car was very planted and confidence inspiring I didn't feel connected to the wheels at all and had no idea what was going on in corners. Again spoilt with the Evo, 2 turns lock to lock and so direct and precise. Appreciate the difference in target audience.

Engine obviously needed more power. Totally not used to diesels though, hit the limiter by accident whilst cruising :p

Indicators - may be just me being a bit tentative in someones elses car, but I prefer indicators that physically stay on. I appreciated that they are only included for show however :p

Thought the bonnet was slightly high, really minor but I've got used to it sloping away to nothing. I can barely see mine - just the road.

Prefer grippier seats but can't moan at this, different target market.

Conclusion is that it is a very nice car. I've never disputed BMW make a great car, just that they aren't for me. It's just not direct, focussed or raw enough for me, although I could certainly see myself driving one as a daily.

Bottom line - I want to drive an M. I did enjoy driving it, but I so want to try one with the power I want and I'm praying that the steering will be different although Will didn't seem to think so :(

It's nearly got me wanting to offer you the keys to the Evo. I want you to experience the other side of the fence too ;) We'll see how I feel at the next meet ;)

As for "bestest car ever"? Don't push your luck ;) I can see what you are on about though, they are striving for the most complete package, and they aren't far off for a more mainstream driver, just the compromises they've made affect a driver like me the most.

Yea, not sure what they've done with the E60 steering but it's not as nice as normal.

I like Evo's - you know I do. They look awesome and the performance is brilliant. My problem is that I'd end up letting things like the interior and refinement ruin my enjoyment of the car.

Well you'll just have to stow it like I had to for the BMW, and judge it objectively :p

The Evo's interior is probably the best Jap one I've sat in, but it's a terribly far cry from anything German.

If you are up for it, we'll see how I feel, and whether you've posted anything thats ****** me off nearer the time :p:p

+1. I ended up shopping around for a decent set of gloves that were warm, but not too thick, and also had tactile palms and fingers, just so I could wear them while driving before the car and it's controls have warmed up.
