Fox- your view on this really surprises me, I would have thought you see them as essential after having them before. I have them in my Mondeo and love them- it's not about getting the seat up to an acceptable temp because as you say this happens quickly anyway, but being warm down your and around your kidneys keeps you really warm without the cab getting stuffy. I HATE that my X5 doesn't have them tbh.
Oh, and +1 for heated steering wheels. If heated grips can be made commonplace for bikes then heated steering wheels should be no problem!

The heated seats in my car take about 1 minute to warm up.
