Not used until now but my front heated windscreen has a section on the drivers side which doesn't work.

I know the driver and passenger side have separate fuses and the passenger side is just fine and parts of the driver side work. There is also a gap berween the elements where its clean and not which looks intentional, leading me to think it could be a fuse.

Not had a chance to look yet but could this be damaged elements?

It's fused in two halves, so if it was that (or a connection) then you'd have half of it not working. In your case it just looks like a few of the elements in that central 'column' have failed. The only solution is a new screen really.

When looking at the screen, it appears to be in 3 sections. Passender to middle. middle to the left of the above image and then from left to the end of the screen.

Is it possible its fused in 3?

It turns out that the warranty don't cover it, which is a slight pain, but considering my windscreen excess is only £50, I may just get them to do it.

Is it only Fords that have a heated windscreen? Such a useful technology yet I don't see it from any other manufacturer.

Ford at the moment, they've got it patented which I believe runs out 2015 (?!) So you'll not likley find it on another vehicle.

No, my VW has one.

Out of interest, how long does it take your heated windscreens to start melting the ice? Been using mine recently and it seems slow at getting the job done.

Really?! Surprising as Ford own the patent!

Depends on the thickness to be honest and if its frost or ice. Frost is quick and Ice takes a little longer. I can normally put my front/rear window heaters on and they're done before I've done the rest of the car!
