I will be going on holiday and plan on bringing some pc parts with me and want to hand carry it.Is this alright in heathrow security check? or is this trouble? Shall I just put it in a baggage.I will only be bringing a few things and can probably hand carry them all this is why im asking this.

thanks

As long as its not liquids or a sharp like a weapon, and they fit in your carry on luggage its fine.

Security: What's this then?
Me: They are hard drives
Security: I know what it is I used to work for Dell!
Me: So why did you ask?
Security: *Silence*

Happened.

They also conviscated my duct-tape for the box my PC was in, because apparently it can be used as a weapon.

Idiots.
Really.
Idiots.

The hard drive cage has sharp egdes, weighed a ton and a blow to someones head would do some mighty damage. But, no tape, .....

Other than that though, they may take everything out of your bag in no order, after it took you an hour to pack it neatly and safely to have to do it in 5mins!

Why are you carrying duct tape on an aircraft anyway? It can be used as a restraint, same as tie wraps etc.

Don't blame security, blame the causes that have made our travel freedoms so tight.

so could a pair of tights do they stop women wearing them? what about belt's? they can be used as restraints or you could go indiana jones on someone ass and whip them

They'll be fine in your hand luggage. What you might find is that you have to take the pc parts out of your bag and put them on top of your hand luggage when going through the scanner (bit like a laptop). Other then that, it will be fine!

I had a funny incident with an electric thermometer:

Security: Sorry sir you can't take thermometers on the aircraft
me: Urmm I think the rule is that you can't take mercury on the aircraft - granted that would be dangerous
Security: Sorry no, I've been told no thermometers sir
me: How does me being able to tell the temperature onboard represent any danger?
Security: no thermometers Sir!

I think some of them have trouble interpreting the rules and the reason for them actually being there!

Did you think that up yourself?

Ofcourse I bloody know you can use it for a restraint!!
Why the hell should I need to explain why I needed to carry duct-tape?

You really want to know?

I was going to a lan party in norway and 4 times during the trip I need to re seal all the boxes of the 6 people that are carrying screens/pc's etc and you can't seal a box then put the item in the box. So it was left outside and put in carry-on.

You do realise that I was carrying a hard-drive bady with 5 HDD's inside with sharp edges, it may as well have been a brick.

Yes, I blame the secruity business because it's laughable.
Last year I managed to take it onboard but not the year before.

Hell, for the uniformed I had two GTX's,x5 HDD's, loads of cables and for the paranoid it could have looked like a loat of circuitry and cables for a bomb, or I could have used any of the objects as a bludgeoning device, used the socket end of a IEC lead as a flail and thumped people over the head/ used it as a restraint.

I could have taken out my pen and jammed it into someones neck. I could have taken my tie and strangulated someone. I could have used my fists, feet, head.

But no, no duct tape, you can "restrain someone".
Restrain someone without any other weapon and 100 other people on the aicraft who none of which would try to restrain me.

Because, I'm going to bring down a plane with duct tape.
I'm sorry, it's a stupid law but one I will just have to follow.

Oh, as a last point, yes, I actually took some Leather Restraints (yes for sexy time) in my carry on, on another flight, they saw it but didn't think anything of it. (Other than..."freak" probably but hey, I like it like that".

Time for you to make a confession in that thread. ;)

A mate took a 1970s tape deck (for a hi-fi stereo so its pretty massive) on a flight back from australia a while back....

Apparently airport security just staired at him windering what the hell he was taking it on a flight for :D

Anyway you should hav eseen the day i came back from uni at the end of last year in beflast, i was in a massive rush and just bundeled my ps2 and cube in my hand luggage back and had to have a 20 min search as apparently thats what "they" hide 'em in.....

Wasnt sure who he was reffering to, being belfast int, but it was a useless waste of time as im pretty convinced a slimline ps2 cant house enough explosives to take down a plane to luton...

If you put it inside your suitcase they cant check that....

Of course they can check it, silly! :o :p

Some (6~ ish) years ago I actually had my case examined (by the TSA, iirc) on the way out of the US. It had a nice sticker on it saying that they had gone through it!

@OP: Don't worry about it, the worst that can possible happen is that they break out the gloves and KY jelly~ ;) :p
