Hi all

Looking to make a decision on either driving or getting a train to London Heathrow terminal 3

I think parking somewhere close by using one of the parking firms from a Sunday to Thursday is coming in at a about £55-60 . Add on top of that any potential ulez . Plus fuel from Cardiff each of Way I think the claim would be about £222

Or I can get return leg on the train for £162

Does the parking £55-60 seems about right? Or does this seem low ? Anyone use this airport terminal much ? I wouldn't mind using the train if I can

Coach . Seriously so much cheaper , we travelled from North Essex and it was so so easy via National Express . They even had a pick up point at our local Tescos so don't just search Cardiff. Seats are roomy , tray tables , charging points and a toilet on board.

Just had a quick look it's will be sub £40 if booked n advance , the coach station at lhr has very easy acess direct to the terminal -5 min walk.

£162 train v £190 driving, I drive every time.

And yes, Heathrow is under ULEZ.

Average cost for parking is like £15 a day so if it’s less, then it’s less than average. Paid £90 for 3 days during the August once.

Train to Heathrow is a bit of a pain. It's fine if you're flying from Terminal 5 but the train station at T3 isn't the 30 second walk to the terminal that Heathrow will try to make you think it is.

I always use the on site parking. Pod parking for T5, business parking for the others but it's a business expense so cost isn't really a consideration.

When you say one of those parking firms, do you mean the ones where they drive your car to an offsite location. If yes I’d never trust them with mine, one of my mates had his front wing virtually ripped off by one of these firms.

What about staying at the Thistle Hotel the night before with parking then using the Pod shuttle

Is there no shuttle service or short bus ride ? I don't mind a 5-10 min walk from the train station if it's like that . I assume its not going to be a 25-30 min walk ?

I don't know I know. I just stuck my details in to the parking comparison site and looked at the first row of results

I'd rather the train if I can as I'm having a few clutch issues on my car at the moment . However it's drivable . Plus I wouldn't mind not having the annoyance of driving myself.

Either way I think the train will cost the company less than fuel claim, parking and ulez charges

Be prepared for the £5 charge to use the Pod.

Probably not a great choice though, if OP is flying from T3 then one of the hotels on Bath Road plus the Hotel Hoppa (their spelling, not mine) would be more convenient than the Pod to T5 and then getting from T5 to T3.

I think I'm just being a lazy sod tbh. It's probably a 10 - 15 minute walk.

That's doable . Sounds like a walk from my office where I am in Cardiff bay to Cardiff central station or the city which I can easily do.

If I get the train id be leaving my car at the office here and walking the 10-15 min walk to my local train station here in Cardiff

Yeah, as I said I'm being a lazy sod. Also, I try to get to the airport about 45 minutes before my flight so on the odd occasion I've gone to T3 by train I've had to get a wriggle on.

If you go by train, don't bother with the Heathrow Express if you're the one paying the bill - it's stupid money for such a short journey. Heathrow Connect or Elizabeth Line from Paddington is what I use.

Yeh it will the Elizabeth line from Paddington.

I'll plan on leaving with plenty of time and don't mind hanging about to be honest so all good

I'll See what they say.

This walk ?

0.3 miles? with an approx 7-10 min walk - thats not long is it ? :)

- terminal 2 & 3 tube station to what looks like the entrance to terminal 3

(Click on the image to see bigger image)

or actually the terminal 2 and 3 elizibeth line is just above where the blue line walking line starts, again the elizibeth 2 & 3 station doesnt seem like that much further,

I would assume to get parking as close as what appears to be within the vacinity of the tube stations and the terminal 3 entrance anyway your still looking at approx £60-£90 for Sunday to thursday probably unless you park further out and get a transfer in
