Heathrow total shutdown

Kind of like Heathrow is a very profitable private company and should be ensuring that all these ducks are in a row for its continued operation.
Some very high level discussion between the airport and NG would have been in order.

Oh I guarantee that it will not be just one board that will be spitting fire..

It also increases the operational risk for all the airlines using Heathrow for flight routes, logistics and flight services.. additional risk = additional cost.

Air traffic control incident causing extensive UK diversions ..
r4 interview with ex controller for NATS who complained about lack of information, but, assuming this was not any kind of sabotage(MOSSAD came to mind)
we wouldn't want them to disclose full details if it highlights an exploit that could be used, by enemies.
(obviously there was the incident preceeding sub-station fire that highlighted software deficiencies with multiple planes with same ID - was it?)

Police surround United Airlines plane after it makes emergency landing at Heathrow.

Seems like lots of events at Heathrow today.

After problems last year on both outbound and inbound flights, we decided to go to Europe by road using the overnight ferry on the way out, and the channel tunnel on the way back.

No problems at all. No queue after queue, everything ran on time and I was allowed to keep my shoes and belt on.

We'll still fly when we have to, but will look at other options first.

interesting relationship
NATS, the UK air traffic management service, has successfully deployed a 3D Primary Surveillance Radar system that is able to mitigate against the impact of wind turbines. The move will allow multiple proposed wind farm developments to go ahead, with the potential to release further megawatts in future. It is a first for UK civil air traffic management and will support’s the Government’s plan to deliver 10GW of onshore wind power by 2030.

Typically, wind turbines can cause interference to conventional radar, appearing as ‘clutter’ that can potentially hide or be mistaken for aircraft, something that’s an obvious safety concern. In most cases, NATS can work with the turbine developer to mitigate the impact using a range of techniques, but those aren’t always long term, scalable solutions.

Really grateful I just missed this - flew back up to Manchester the night before.
Not sure I'd want to be stuck in departures with a moody 13 year old daughter longer than I had to be... :D

I can believe it.:p (although it can be funny to watch as a non involved person).

My niece is nearly 12.
My sister is rapidly learning why our parents often seemed exhausted and exasperated dealing with her when she was that age. Meanwhile my father, brother and I are just sitting back and trying not to laugh too much as sis always seems to think our parents (especially my dad) were a bit harsh on her (she got away with far more lip, talking back and ignoring what she was told to do than any of her siblings).

Look on the bright side, going by my experience with my sister, you've possibly only got about another 30 years of that moodiness.:p :D
