Heating "HEATSHRINK TUBE"

I bet those heat guns used for paint stripping would be good

google - wolf heat gun - less than a tenner

A hairdryer> Would that work? I doubt it. I tried using my dads heat gun and watched in horror as it singed away my blue braiding.

If your using braiding I think heat guns are just too hot, I've done quite a lot of braiding and heatshrinking and i find licking at the tubing with a cigarette lighter is the best way to do it and avoid damage to anything else. Just don't over do it, keep the flame moving and don't be afraid to stop and let it cool down for a few seconds. Also you might want to alternate between two lighters so that they don't overheat and brake. Practise makes perfect.

buy a prescott cpu and leave on for 3 mins, should heat up everything inside perfectly

on a serious note, if I dont have a heatgun handy its either a soldering iron body [not the tip the bit immediately behind it] or a lighter

as far as mutiple goes allowing for cooling down, then it strikes me you've used the wrong size heatshrink, it should be one blast of heat on opposite sides of the heatshrink [along the length as well if its a long piece] and job done
