Hi all,

Will hopefully get time this weekend to fit my heatkiller 7970 ni bi and just wanted to know do you refit the bracket (X Shape) that sits over the back end of the core or not? Saw a video where the guy didn't fit it but I thought it was needed to balance pressure on core. Any links / videos of it the heatkiller 7970 being installed would be really helpful. Secondly, I'll be fitting the heatkiller 3 1366 also and it was 3 years since I last did it and I can't remember the mounting tension. I think it maybe 19.6mm but could be wrong.

Any advice would be great,

RoEy

Hi Whyscotty,

Thanks for your response and sorry mines been delayed. I've been busy over the weekend stripping the system down and cleaning it all. I'm going to try and install the block tonight but I'm really not looking forward to it lol.

Yes the bracket you've circled is what I'm talking about. I do have the backplate too so I won't need to refit the bracket then. I had a quick scan of the instructions and I couldnt see anywhere that it mentioned it. I just thought the bracket helped with evening the pressure on the core. I've heard with this block that you can't apply too much pressure to the core as it only screws in so far, is this true? Are there any videos for the installation of this block?

Also, if anyone knows the mounting tension for the heatkiller 3 for a 920 that would be great. I'm sure it's 19.6mm but not 100% sure.

Many thanks!

I have an XFX 7970BEDD and I don't have any bracket like this... what is this madness?! :D Interesting reading this thread though, as I am gona build my WC loop tomorrow including a Watercool 7970NiBl with the watercool backplate.

I also got the CPU watercool block for my 930 but I don't understand, how could I know the tension exactly? :O

The bracket obviously isnt needed then lol. Glad I don't have to put it back on then.

The manual (http://watercool.de/en/node/352) suggests you are right for a pressure of 200N (recommended).

Yeah I thought it was that, cheers. :)

So its about screwing 19.6mm in? Is that all?

From top of the screw to the top of the fastener needs to be 19.6mm. I've got my caliper vernier ready.:D

I didnt use the X Shape brackets with my 7970s and all is ok. If i remember rightly, the supplied screws do the job instead.

Thanks for the info martos. How tight do you make the screws or can you only screw in so far anyway?

I just screwed them down until it felt "right", no science involved i'm afraid! There may have been more, but i didnt want to force it. When tightening it, do each screw a bit at a time to make sure of a good even contact too, rather than starting at one end and tightening each individually.
