Hi all,

My motherboard is the Asus P5Q deluxe (775) which has pipes around the processor, and its quite chunky.

I am thinking of getting the Corsair A50 from ocuk however I don't know if it will fit? The heatsink is 775 compatible but I had problems fitting in a Gigabyte X power, which was 775 too, and could only get the fan fit in a certain way.

What I wanted to ask is does it impact the board if the heatsink is not pointing the correct way? is there a correct way where it should be facing? If it takes me longer than 20 minutes to put this in, I am doing something wrong, right?

Appreciate any advice! Many thanks.

i know it doesnt answer your question, but if you cant fit the A50 in, you could always go for the H50. its what im having to do because im having size problems with the heatsink too (my problems are height, not width, but the bit that goes on the processor is very small in all directions)

The A50 has large heatpipes, it should give some clearance from those heatsinks!
Ideally you want the fan on the heatsink to be blowing air towards the back of the case and out of the rear exhaust.

This will vent the hot air straight away and keep your memory cooler. If that's not possible have the fan blowing air into the top of your case, and out through the top case fan (if you have one).

Both work nicely, so try both ways of putting it in. If it doesn't fit then you'll have to buy something with a much bigger clearance or get a H50 watercooling setup or similar. It should fit nicely though, they consider mobo heatsinks when designing them.

Thanks for the replies.

I wasn't aware that I could use the H50 (for some reason I thought is was for watercooled machines etc, noob of me)

If I want to be safe in terms of space around my processor, would you recommend the H50? Is that guaranteed to fit my motherboard?

Should fit, says it fits LGA 775. And that means there will be plenty of room in there. Just make sure the pipes to the radiator have enough room.

watch the video on the page about installing it. Very handy.

the H50 is a completely enclosed watercooler. technically it is classed as an air cooler, because it comes pre filled with water, and requires no maintenance.

it says it will fit the 775 socket, and the bit that goes on the processor is so small, i can see no problems with it fitting on there (something like 75mm tall, and 55mm diameter)

before you buy the H50, make sure you have a place to fit the radiator (it needs a 120mm fan socket) that is 10 inches or less from the processor. i only say this because in my case (the coolermaster elite 342) the only place the radiator would fit is the front air intake. luckily the rad can be mounted with the pipes coming out of the top, or the bottom, and the bit that goes on the processor can be mounted in any orientation, so the 11 inch water tubes will just about reach for me. however, if you've got a half decent case this shouldnt be a problem

your fine with that case. rear cooling is 120mm. so if the A50 doesnt fit the motherboard, the H50 is probably gonna be the easiest option

have to chime in with the h50 recommendation, it tidies up the cpu area very well. I can freely change ram any time I want now, I had to do that a few times when I was testing out a secondary build and using my current build to test out the ram and cpu indepenantly.

The h50 made it really easy to access them.

I dunno what th eprice different between the a50and h50 is, I think it's only £20. Well worth it IMO, and can get 5 celcius cooler temps from it.
