My heatsink is the Titan Amanda TEC cooler and when i boot up the pc i get a terrible scretching noise which i think is the TEC alarm.
The alarm should go off when cpu is under 15c or over 75c
ive checked in bios and cpu temp is 14c and system temp is 8c,the alarm lasts for about 1-2 mintues until the cpu temp is16c, idel temp is 26c load temp about 30-40c so my question is,

what kind of problem can this cause because i always thought the colder the better.

if my heatsink is playing up could anyone recommend a good heatink

motherboard msi p45 platinum
cpu intel quadcore Q9450 2.66ghz

Thanks.

14c and 8c on air cooling? Where is the PC - outdoors in a shed??

If you're sure the temperatures are within range, stable, and you don't want the alarm to come on then you can disable the monitoring functions in the motherboard BIOS.

those temps are pretty low are you sure they're correct ? and ive never seen temperature warnings set for too low before

my pc is in the dining room but its about 10ft away from my back door it has gone off whilst my back door was open on many ocations and the weather has been very cold,i would say its down to that but is it ok for the temp to drop that low inside the case ? why would the alarm go off its got to be for some reason.

ive got cpu temp software that came with motherboard and its giving me same readings as bios as i write temps are 25c
i also have a ati 4870 and thats running 37c idle not sure if thats high or low.

i have found this

Orange Light It means the Thermoelectric Chip is working. (When the temperature is over 25C, the TEC is working)
Red Light When the CPU temperature is over 70C or less than 15C, the red LED light will blink and system will send the alarm.
Green Light It means system power has already been started.

I suppose it might be a safety thing - if the sensor stops working and giving data within a sensible range it alarms. The low temperature is no problem and condensation unlikely given the computer's location.
