Hi all,

Can somebody recommend a good cooling solution for my PC? I've bought a Gigabyte GA-81945P Pro motherboard (type LGA775) and a Pentium D840 processor. Rather surprisingly, the heatsink that came with the chip seems too large for my motherboard, which is why I need to get one seperately. The mounting holes are much wider than the corresponding holes on the motherboard (is this a common prob? maybe I bought the wrong Intel Box?) I know these chips run fairly hot, so what sort of heatsink is best? Also, I'd need to be sure it fits the motherboard.

Thks,
George

This is a hot CPU (even for Intel!). Try the Zalman 9500 as it is very light, quiet & gives amazing for air temps performance.

You can also re-use the 9500 when you upgrade as it comes with brackets for most modern CPUs (even AMD).
