heatsink fan placement

Hello!

Putting together my first build. Got some airflow queries.

Excuse the lack of cable management etc... not finished yet!

Basically my heatsink, be quiet! shadow rock 2 is rather large and fits really snug inside my case. The heatsink fits fine however the fan doesn't. Well in certain places.

It was originally attached to the left hand side, sitting just above the RAM. This was fine however it meant the fan hung over the side of the case just enough to disrupt the panel meaning it won't fit.

The fan fits in the bottom just fine as currently I have no gnu or anything to get in the way. But will this cause a problem with the psu and airflow?

Haven't done anything taxing with the pc but it runs nice and cool.

What would you reccomend? Should I rearrange some of the case fans and move the hearsink fan to the top or right hand side?

Hope this made sense...

I assume the top and rear fans are extracts then you will be ok as is, the PSU will be able to draw cooler air as well.

I would install a front fan or two.

Does your case have another grill in the bottom next to the visible one, (below psu). If so, flip your psu over. As it sits currently, it's drawing air from inside your case and exhausting out the back. You want it so that it's intaking from below the case. Regarding the cooler fan, can you not position it on the ram side and slide it down a little so as to allow the side panel to fit? Also as RJC has mentioned, you will need a fan/s at the front to bring some cool air into the case.

I have the same thing on my second pc. It lives up to it's name as being very quiet!

Just need to make sure the fan direction is pushig through the heatsink towards the upper exhaust fan. There'll be airflow arrows on the fan to check.

Do you plan to do much overclocking? If not, then you can actually leave the cooler as it is ! The passive airflow will be more than enough, if you install a couple of front facing fans.

If you want to overclock, then you can install the fan facing the PSU fan. The cold air will be sucked towards the CPU cooler, since that fan has a lot more suction power than the PSU fan.

will you get a GPU in the top slot on the board? put the fan on the top and set it up on pull.
if the cooler is ok to be passive setting up the fan in pull will not be detrimental to the cooling

Sorry for my lack of response guys, didn't realise any one had replied :p

Yes. Will be getting a fan or two at the front soon to bring in some air as currently all the fans are just exhausting air. Comes out nice and cool though.

the fan placed on the RAM side fits but overhangs just a little too much. Theres no real way to move it around on that side either.

Was going to ask about my psu. Yes I have grills at the bottom but never had a psu mounted on the bottom before so didn't know what placement would be best. Like I said. It's running cool currently. But it might be more awkward when I go to add a Gpu.

Why do you have the cooler set up like that? it's going to get a lovely big mouthful of hot air from the back of your GPUs. Does it hit the ram or something?

I would try and turn the fan toward the 5.25 bays.

Yeah the whole issue is that the fan doesn't allow my case to close when placed on the side where the RAM is.

I don't have a gpu yet, hence the set up. Was asking for ideas for when I do get a gpu.
