I'm currently building my first PC, following the tutorial in the hardware section of the forum where I can. The tutorial doesn't have a section for an AMD build yet though so I just have a question in regards to the best position for my heatsink.

I'm using an Antec 300 which has a fan at the back (as usual) and a fan at the top of the case. I'm using rather tall RAM, the RAM heatsinks block a couple of centimetres of the heatsink fan when the fan is installed so that it pushes air from the front of the case, through to heatsink fins and out through the rear case fan. If I install the heatsink with the fan pushing the air up and out through the top case fan, it's airflow is unimpeded but the heatsink fan is above the PSU fan.

In which direction should I have the heatsink and it's fan pointing?

some say put it so it blow air upwards, i prefer the traditional blow it out the back orientation.

Cant you move the RAM to the slots furthest away from the cpu socket?

I could but I thought you were supposed to install them into the slots in a specific order i.e. they're in A1 and B1 at the moment, I could move them to A2 and B2 though it that's o.k.

[EDIT] installing it so it pulls air across the RAM heatsinks has inherent advantages of course.
