Heatsink & Fan replacement

I am looking for a CPU heatsink and fan for my socket 1155 as currently when running p95 all 4 cores are reached 95 degrees C under 100% load and gets there pretty quickly. I have not overclocked but would like to at some point but with the stock intel cooler and those temps it would be crazy I think.

So basically I am looking for something for £30-£40 to tide me over, for 1155 socket with as much cooling potential as possible, I have looked at the Water cooling Units but am not familiar with them so would prefer to go with a normal Air cooling one while I am not overclocking or only slightly.

My cpu is currently running stock @3.3Ghz with the stock intel cooler but I have read people getting 4Ghz with the stock intel cooler .. Is that really possible? right now that seems insane to me..

I have been looking at a couple so far and would like some opinions on them

This one is also nice looking but a bit more money

Advice/opinions welcome

Thanks

Depends on the level of overclock you want to achieve those might just do the job. If you are looking to spend closer to 60 pounds there is an option of K2 Mount Doom, Noctua NH-D14 or one of these. These are more expensive but the cooling provided will be superior to most other air heat sinks.

I personally use the refurbished H100 that went for under 50 pounds before (it looks OcUK finally exhausted all the stocks of it now) and I am very pleased with it. But that was more because of the RAM clearance rather then the wish to go all-in-one water cooler. So if you go for one of the higher end air coolers be mindful of RAM clearance as well.

EDIT: Post appeared after I've posted. The one RJC linked reviewed favorably as well, so that could be an option too. If you don't mind the colour scheme.

I'm a little wary of getting one so wide as I fear my RAM may not be low profile enough, the Raijintek looks like it would be a nice fit.

I had not noticed my CPU was so warm until recently and I think it may be my R9 290 that is making it hot .. if that is possible. The 290 runs hot as everyone knows and being so close to the CPU, I think it may be stopping it from cooling as before with a 560Ti it rarely hit 70-80 degrees C. It is idling at 50-60degrees.. When I crank the 290 fan up to 70% the CPU temp stabilises and even drops a degree or 2 ... would anyone else concur that the 290 is making it hotter?

That's possible.
Maybe system needs cleaning?

On the heat side what is your case, GPU, etc?

I check air temps inside of case with a cheap indoor/outdoor thermometer with wired remote.
Twist a piece of stiff insulated wire into the last 8" of sensor lead so you can bend it to position sensor where you want it... like 40mm in front of your CPU / GPU cooler intake.. to see what the air temp going into CPU / GPU cooler is compared to room temp. The closer it is to room temp the better.. Shouldn't be more 5c maximum, 2-3c is what I usually end up with after 30 minutes full load on both CPU and GPU.

I have a Zalman Z9 with 3 case fans 1 @ Front on suck 1 rear blowing hot air out and 1 top blowing out too. I have a HIS R9 290 Boost 4GB stock cooler 1050/1250.
system is pretty clean but the stock cooler has never been off so I am thinking that the paste is well past done, I thinks it's been on there for 2 years...

I was thinking of getting that Raijintek and a tube of some decent paste .. if my idle temps are 50-60 at the moment what sort of decrease could I expect with that cooler?

Wouldn't surprise me if your temps dropped 20c. System in sig idles 25-29c w/ 3x intake fans.

Do your self a favor. Check to be sure all the case filters are clean and be sure the CPU cooler doesn't have dust-bunnies blocking airflow thru the fins. Where do you have the built in thermometer sensor in your case and what temp does it show?

I'm not sure where the sensor is tbh but the digital read out on the front of the case has never gone over 30 C even when I was running prime95 and the CPU was reading 95 C in Core-temp and speedfan. I have cleaned all the filters and blown the fan with compressed air to blow the dust from the fins .

The temperature probe is the white/green wires with black end on left:

Place the probe 3-4cm from cooler fan intake. If wires are not stiff enough twist a piece of stiff insulated wire into last 15-20cm and bend it to fit. Temp inside of case will be 2-3c above room temp at idle. Not more than about 5c under full load is acceptable. Just remember that every degree warmer the air is going into cooler is a degree warmer the CPU is. If room is 22c and air going into cooler is 30c.. 8c warmer than room... 5-6c warmer than if case is cooling efficiently.. CPU is 5-6c hotter than if case is cooling efficiently.

Its better than any air cooler you will find.
Its quite easy to install and have this advantage over air coolers that it doesn't take so much space. So it won't be affected by ram height or wont be even close to touching pcb of your first pci-e slot. The only thing you need to check is, can you install it inside your case.
Check the h80s radiator size.
And yes, it is a complete unit, however I swapped fans on mine, when I still had one.
It will perform better if you add some premium fans, like Akasa apache, noctua or scythe gentle typhoon.

For the same money you can get a black PH-TC14PE 'B' grade with 90 day warranty.. and only thing that can wear out is fans. Might need TIM. Can you measure the distance from motherboard to side cover? I measured 169mm motherboard to top of TC14PE. Middle fan can be mounted flush with top. Front fan height is dependent on RAM height. Running with 1 fan makes CPU 1c warmer than running with 2 fans.

H80 cools the same as top air coolers (at 150w load H80 is 1.6c cooler & twice as loud)
* Only has a 90 day warranty
* Is not as reliable as air coolers
* Known pump problems (where do you think all these 'refurbished' coolers came from?)
* very loud.. and with additional cost of quiet fans is easily as expensive as similar performing air cooler.

So the risk with a B grade WC unit is a lot higher that something will go wrong than if I just switch air coolers, B grade always makes nervous though I had a HDD that is still running today that was B grade.. I understand though .. I think I will stick to an air cooler with 1 or 2 powerful fans. I am not bothered by noise I use a head set and when not gaming I usually just run things quieter

This will sound very nooby to you 1337 tech guys but what exactly does the figure in watts mean? The above linked cooler says "300w Cooling Performance" What exactly does that mean to the lay man such as myself?
