So I have a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo for my gf. She got it off a friend and said it keeps turning off, had been back to the shop twice and had new power units. I said it sounds like heat problem.

Opened it up and low and behold dust everywhere, I took the heatsink off and the cpu came up with it even though the socket was locked. well now when i pu the sink back on with the cpu it acts like there is no cpu.

obviously i need to unlock the socket, put the cpu in, lock the socket. Now heres the problem: I cant get the cpu off the heat sink. looks like there is thermal paste all around the edges that im trying to scrap off.

Any one got any clever idea on how to sort this?

Ok hairdryer it is, living in a house with 3 other guys this may prove harder than i thought!
Then go for the radiator. Anything of reasonable temperature will do if it can warm it up a bit to make the heatsink sauce more pliable.

well i found a hair dryer now, im gonna go for it! :D

Do you think this cpu will work seeing as i ripped it out of its locked socket?

bingo!
Thanks guys, I'll be honest i was dubious to try that but thanks, i'll remember that for next time!
