Heatsink

All the 'passive' heatsinks are big and heavy and therefore can only be used with cpus with an ihs.
You probably don't need a big heatsink at all to passively cool that, looks like an SI 97 is about the best there is, not many socket A heatsinks around.
I think there was an xp 90 c that was the best you could get at one point but i can't find mention of it anywhere. Heres a review.

Why do you need it to be passive? Its a lot cheaper and easier to just use a low airflow silent fan. Should be very easy to do with that cpu.

Thx for the reply, the reason is noise but like you say could use fan but must be dead silent and i mean dead silent due to were system is.

any recomendations ?

thx.

why so silent, where is it, a noise activated bomb factory or summin!!!

Perhaps a music audio server in Hi-Fi racking? Actually bringing up similar matter it's annoying that you can't get decent heatsinks for older CPU's, ie my P3 993mhz is still great for music playback, but the stock HSF is REALLY noisy, probably around 45-50dB. Socket 378? so wouldn't be able to find Ninja-like cooling solution for it.

Well if i were you i would get any cheap socket A heatsink that will accommodate an 80mm fan and then buy yourself a nexus 80mm fan with a zalman fanmate and wind it down to 7v. You won't hear it.

I reckon that will be cheaper than paying more for a bigger heatsink.

Hundreds of possible reasons, could just be that he likes silent computing like myself. And it can't be 'so silent', either its silent or it isn't.

Or fit a 120mm fan and 80mm-120mm adapter. Run the 120mm fan at 5V and it should be quiet enough.

I tried an 80-70mm fan adaptor and it was absolutely terrible, almost all the airflow from the fan was lost, i would avoid them.

Just occured to me, most of these cpus use 50mm fans with their stock heatsinks, if you google for rasurbo they make a decent 50mm fan, at least the 40mm one i tried was very good. If you can't find it email me.
