Heatsinks and retaining brackets.

I've currently got an Akasa heatsink and fan connected to a Athlon 64 754 CPU.

If I wanted to change the heatsink and fan to say a AMD heatsink and fan would I need a new retaining bracket and how easy are they to fit? Would I need to remove the MOBO from the case to do this?
