With this heat im sure you are seeing temperatues higher than usual but my concern is about the 8800gtx. I have recently cleaned up my pc properly and have have moved around it in such a way that the back of my pc vents out through my window. I also have a rotating fan inside my room to keep things cool but whenever i play a heavy duty game, the temperature spikes and reaches up to 100C. I know 8800 runs hot and im fine with it but there comes a time that i see significant decrease in gaming peformance followed by a greyed out monitor screen which just confirms that yes gpu is too hot.

I was wondering if any of you guys are having a similar problem with heat or have had in the past, then what did you do or would suggest to circumvent this annoyance.

My gpu is clean no dust on fan, cpu temeperature is within normal range.

Just to add that i run a dual montior setup and sometimes i have a movie running on one screen while a game on the other but not always.

Thanks in advance.

well thanks for your replies even though some of them were /cough strange :P.

Surely it's not that my gtx had its day in the sun, i mean runs great on cool days.

Just to point out, im using riva tuner and running a custom profile with 100% fan speed.

I tried "open door" technique but it looks out of place so i decided to dig up some of my cooling stuff from here and there and found a case cooler (on OCuk but can't remember name). Cleaned up some dust on the card, re-arranged my sound card and made room for the case cooler. GPU at 73C idle before it was 80C. Working on word for my report so don't know how it will go when i play a game:(.

water cooling seems like a chore so i doubt im gonna go that way but tried to find something like a portable pc air conditioner, found one on google but not sure if its good enough. Someone went through a lot of trouble to modify his airconditioner and hooked it to his pc. Try googling it, its with images, unbelievably convoluted but kudos to the person who did it.

Opened case cover and had a pedastal fan blowing into the case from one direction and thepc back blows out of the window. Gpu idle temp dropped from 73C to 66C. well at least its something.

as i said, only sometimes but since 2 days ago i have stopped doing that.

Furthermore, my cpu temps on the oced quad sit at around 48-55C idle which is ok as fan kicks in while playing games anf temps dont go above 60C much. so i dont think i need to reseat my heatsink which i did anyway less than a month ago as per my usual cleaning.

i have been running with opened case and a fan since yesterday afternoon and temps seem to b holding up at 80c under load which is pretty cool compared to 100C earlier.

Im using 1.392Vcore on the cpu with an arctic pro 7 cooler. Anything lower than that vcore and i get crashes.

I do have a rear fan expelling the air out and a side case fan taking air into the case.

Im not a fan of having my case opened and i know that if thats needed then something is not right.

As i stated previously, i cleaned my cpu cooler just a month ago. But if 55C idle is too high then what else can i do? Re-apply thermal paste? Re-adjust cooler?

Any more helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Nope nothing on front, just rear and side case fan. I guess thats a start, would get some fans and see if that makes a difference.

On a side note, i made some changes and vcore is now 1.32V.
