heavy downloading affecting movie playback

try downloading to a different drive than the one your ISO's stored on.

You say your download folder is on a spearate drive and then say it's the same one :S

sorry i meant the download folder is on a seperate drive from my o/s, and its the same drive i store and play dvd iso's from.

i will try what you suggest, cheers

i have been downloading to my seperate E:
i have an iso and the same movie as dvd files on my c:
c: was defragmented
antivirus was off

i still get the odd break in the sound, i even played from the dvdrom drive playing a dvd and it still has a break in the sound and with antivirus off. the break in sound maybe happen about once every minute but not regular as clockwork.

well after much farting about i could not resolve this, i then tried installing a sb audigy soundcard borrowed from my kids pc and this seems to have fixed my problem, i can play everything flawlessly now even hd content.

i was using the onboard sound spdif output on my gigabyte motherboard but now ill stop using this.

should i stick with the audigy card or is there a better card i can buy for not a lot of money. my main priority is a quality spdif used for movie and hd movie soundtrack going to my home cinema amp.

This is a well weird issue if the sound can slow a PC down enough to cause such a problem like this.

I know that OnBoard Audio is a lot slower than a dedicated card, but not this much?

The Audigy is a great card, so, for the money no, stick with it.

Either wya, if your problem seems to be cured, then thats it.

Remember to remove all the junk for the onboard Audio too!

If you have Vista, i blame the Audigy drivers, they use to be useless, and i still dont trust them... Creative and Nvidia need to get their act together properly...

Crackling/stuttering sound when under load isn't that uncommon with onboard sound, often caused by an overheating southbridge. The Soundstorm used by Nvidia on Nforce2 chipsets was notorious for this (although it was actually very good in terms of audio quality).

I have still got a pair of NF7S Boards ( XP1700 @ Ridiculous ) and ( XP2500M @ No way man! ) and these were both hammered to hell and back, and not once did I ever have anything like stuttering or crackling no matter how much load I put them through.

On saying that, in both cases, I have used the boards heavily and they have been clocked since day 1 and I have both N+S Bridges cooled with Vantecs and the entire Boards have had plenty of fans blowing cool air all over it... Maybe thats why then?
