All,

I have a PSU with no PCIe connectors and I'm im trying to use an Asus R9 290x GPU which requires a 6 way and an 8 way connection.

The PCIe 6 way cable that I have has two LP4 inputs going to one PCIe 6 way.
The PCIe 8 way cable that I have has two LP4 inputs going to one PCIe 8 way.

Therefore I need 4 available LP4 conenctors to join up the required PCIe cables.

I bought 2 LP4 splitters (one male to two female), which melted within a few minutes of ramping up the GPU. I think I was lucky that it didnt catch fire or damage the equipment (~£5000 server).

So I'm after 2 heavy duty LP4 splitter cables, OR I should be able to use 4 heavy duty LP4 extension cables.

Any ideas on where to get these?

Thanks,
Paul

If it's a 'real' server then I'd guess that the PSU is perfectly adequate, but it just doesn't have the necessary cabling. Powering video cards isn't usually the first concern with server power supplies.

I wouldnt trust running a 290 via molex connectors to be honest. If it doesnt have any 6 / 8 pin connectors, can you even be sure it has enough amps on the 12v for running a 290?

Are you intending to use this for mining?
