Horrible admission but I'm 22 stone, I swear I won't be by the end of the year but I've got a taster course coming up in April and am wondering is even though I don't plan on being on one for longer than necessary can any of the huskier gentlemen on this forum can tell me how well they faired on a 125cc?

Your profile says you're 33, you could go for a DAS and have your choice of any big bike? You're going to have an easier time finding something that suites you if you can ride anything.

If you want a 125 then the Honda Varadero is pretty big.

tbh a 125 isn't going to be much fun @ 22 stone! Some nice big cruiser would go nicely.

Yeah the DAS is the plan but I gotta get through the taster session to even see if I like 2 wheels and then the CBT all on a tiny 125cc that I have visions of not even moving with my fat arse on it.

I had thought about the 125cc Varadero but they're way too expensive and for the money I think I'd rather move up to something like a Yamaha YBR 250 or even a 600cc if I can find the cash.

Go do some taster sessions then. The 125 will be slow but will give you an idea of if you enjoy it. While you're on the 125 imagine something that's easier to control, handles nicer and goes faster (probably) than any car you've ever been in. That's a 600cc :)

600s aren't necessarily more expensive than smaller bikes either, so don't think you need to go for a 250 just because of money. You can get some nice 600s cheap.

I'm only really going for the Yamaha cause I want something really cheap on petrol for my commute into central London and it's very cheap too but if I really take to all weather biking I may even ditch my car and just get a Honda NC 700. But I'm getting ahead of myself. I'll see how it goes in April.

well i used to be fatter, 29st managed to get down to 22stone after torturing my self. wife rewarded me with booking my CBT when i hit 22stone. btw i am also 33.

my advice tell the place you are big and 22stone.ask them if they have some thing more suited to your size like a XR 125.
the school where i took my cbt initially gabe me a CBR which imho was no good and riding in the yard it was VERY uncomfortable. they noticed this and took me to one side and asked me not to call it quits and to back the next morning, so the next day they gave me an XR 125 to ride on.

straight away i felt at ease, my belly wasnt pushing my legs wide, u-turns were much easier as was figure of eight. and due to the ride position i wasn't looking at the tarmac as much and getting the wobbles.

after my they gave me a certificate they preety much told me to go for a Varadero. way out of my budget at the time i looked at other bike, test rode a few different 125s then rode a vardero up a very steep hill. :P so i splashed out all my savings on one and am enjoying it a LOT.

hoping to do a DAS some time after May.

even if your taster sessions doesnt go well don't call it quits.

oh and you havent started to look at jackets and pants have you? sizing is nightmare. compared to normal clothes. jackets wise aussie bikers cater for big blokes, ive given up looking for decent textiles pants postage to send them back costs too much i spent around £90 on postage . Dragging do kevlar jeans for 48" to 50" waist but no knee protection but its comfortable if you know what i mean.

I'm a bit bigger than you and I ride a Suzuki Inazuma 250 and it handles fine and doesn't seem to struggle with my weight. It would probably be more noticeable on a 125cc, but you should be able to get up to around 50mph at least. If you can I'd go for a bike with an upright seating position which would probably be the most comfortable.

Yeah I've already had the issue of finding a helmet as I have a huge head and tried on loads of 3XL helmets but could only wear them like a crown lol So I just took a chance and ordered the only ECE 22.05 4XL Helmet I could find from America and it fits.
If I like Biking I'll order the other 4XL helmets I've seen and wear the one that fits best, I was also planning on getting the rest of my equipment from there too.

That's great to hear, I was looking at the Suzuki Inazuma but the insurance quotes I got for that bike on a comparison site were more than some 600cc bikes.
As I really want the bike for commuting London traffic I always wanted an upright riding position and the belly & back couldn't take being hunched over on some sports bike. :D

It depends very much on the type of bike you go for. A CBR600 will be far faster or more powerful than my 1990 XTZ750 for example.
As a larger rider myself I much prefer the upright traillies than sports bikes.

Hi all, I'm new here.

I'm 6ft 2 and 16 stone and ride a YBR125.
It really isn't powerful enough for me- it is pretty slow off the mark, but it is ok for commuting and it was good to learn on.

I'm doing my DAS next week and getting a bigger bike.
