US: Helix

The theme tune is odd but I quite like the way it is all upbeat and happy and then when the drop occurs it kind of warps. That seems strangely fitting. The CDC team went in full of confidence and shortly after it all went very wrong.

There have been a few other moments throughout where they've done a similar thing with music, so it's obviously a bit of a running theme. Shame it's not actually used a bit more effectively, it does feel like the show could do with being a bit more off-the-wall instead of just falling into the usual sci-fi action cliches and traps.

The use of Elevator Musak is intentional, it is supposed to be a juxtapose between what you eyes see (offensive) and what your ears hear (inoffensive).

Whether it works or not is still open for debate however.

I haven't read the thread as there are usually spoilers but does it get better? Is this one of the series that the first few episodes aren't all that but improves greatly by later ones?

I watched the double episode and I thought it was OK but it didn't convince me to watch anymore as it seemed to be sticking to the tried and testing story of disease outbreak in a lab with people (lab boss and military) hiding what was really going on.

So far there are some enjoyable twists and turns. The story is opening up a bit more (I think I am 4/5 episodes in, watching on Chan 5) with some new characters being introduced.

But you may hate it! Haha

Thanks for the reply Jester*, I don't mind predictability in a show when there is something to offset it such a humour (Castle/Psych) some novel concept (Dexter) or just nerdgasmically enjoyable (Arrow) but the pilot came across to me that the series story arc would be entirely predictable based on an overused concept. I may still hate it but if there is some twists and character development/new characters then I can give it a second chance.

Its a bit confusing this show, looks deep and involved and the usual hidden agendas....but confusing with what is going on.

I have no real clue either even after this episode.

what are the people with funny eyes?
Why create a zombie virus?
Why create a cure?
Where did these people come from? how did they get so powerful?
Why have they been kidnapping children seemingly for decades
Why in tonights episode did
seven of nine have to die :( she looks damn good still probably better than her borg days and she's 45 I believe :O

Feels a lot like lost, questions , questions , vague answer , questions , questions , questions , vague answer, questions questions , some things will never make sense.

Wow! Channel 5 (5*) only showing the first 6 episodes! With no estimate of the second half! Where do I get the rest from?

Andi.

Yeah, bizarre move, staying fairly current with the US broadcasts but then dumping it after 6 episodes. This is why terrestrial channels suck.

yeah I mean its kinda a quirky and interesting show but to the point they are just adding in multiple mysteries or are they just making stuff up only to wrap it up if they make it to season 2:D

Confusing show I will drop this and black sails more then likely...

Jeri Ryan was only thing worth watching, that scene with the lip biting finishing far too early either that or she was teasing again.
Still nice of her to show more action then 20 billion light years on voyager.

My opinion is that the corporation who runs the base has tasked Hiroshi with creating a serom for the development of a super solider or some kind of super human. But then Hiroshi said he did not want to be involved with genocide, which made me wonder if the corporation actually wants to create an outbreak that kills off most of the population with only a select few having the cure.

Hiroshi has developed the cure and they had the cure before cdc arrived, as evident by Hiroshi and the Sutton eyes are already white which proves that they are already protected against the virus. It looks like the state that they are in gives them super human abilities and also prevents the infected from being interested in them, not only not interested but also fearful of them.

The question i am left with then is why call CDC in the first place. If they had all the expertise on site and they had the cure, why not give it to Peter to begin with instead of allowing him to roam around infecting other people. Why would Hiroshi keep it all a secret as well.

I think its the lack of communication that annoys me in these types of shows, but they have been talking in the more recent episodes and finally Alan knows about Hiroshi and the situation with the eyes.

Next episode is going to be interesting to see where they go with it all.

They let that one women leave the base and i am betting that will lead to an outbreak outside of the base. It must get out of the base at some point as i would hate to see it only in the base the whole time.
