Hey there

So is anyone here still playing or started playing Hellgate London? I bought it at launch and though it was pretty good but when I started to progress in the game my old system at the time couldn't handle it so I stopped playing. I thought I may give it another go but I was wondering if it had plummeted downhill since launch? I know there were lots of bugs and stuff and people saying it failed so I'm just trying to decide whether it would be worth a reinstall.

Thanks.

Played it a bit recently and didn't enounter any bugs or performance problems so I think they've improved it in that respect, but still not sure if they managed to 100% fix that debilitating memory leak. That was the DX9 version running under Vista, the DX10 version was really laggy in comparison for no significant improvement in visuals. The game itself hasn't really changed so it will be much the same as you remember. Think I read about a big 2.0 patch coming soon.

I really like it, never hit any bugs. Can't understand why it got such a slating.

The should have varied the areas in the first few hours or gaming though, I think that put a lot of people off.

I PLayed it a lot when it first came out. Then i reinstalled with vista x64 and i get a black flickering screen on startup that crashes my whole computer. No ammount of driver updates/patches fixed the issue to i gave up.

Was a lot of fun when i did play it tho.

Er theres not much variation in areas in the whole game is there? Underground tunnels, ruined streets, storm drain bit...with the (very) occasional one-off park or unique building.

I really need more hand crafted areas. The few it had were great (ie Covent Gardens) but the generated areas got old fast.

I enjoyed the game, especially hacking the endless hordes of zombies. Lots of references to zombie movies there too (cricket bat from Shaun of the dead).
Downsides are the repetitiveness of the levels and the useless objects spawned. The game could do with some npc elements in the dungeon arenas and less of the respawn in already explored areas. It lacks that feeling of each hacknslashed monster being one less in the world, instead of an obstructing spawn.
Love the zombies tho...

Well I reinstalled it this morning and played it for about 2 or 3 hours and got to level 7. I have to say, there don't seem to be any bugs now but I was bored by the time I reached that level. The enviroments do get extremely repetetive and boring quickly lol.

I liked it, but (if you havn't heard) Flagship have been liquidated (terminology may be lacking here, sorry if I got it wrong) and so... well, I have no idea what's happening. Hellgate and Mythos have been aquired by seperate (other) companies. =(

Very disappointing as Mythos looked great. Guess the Diablo 3 announcement took the wind out of there sails.

As I've said elsewhere, I always felt that the biggest weakness of the game was the skills, which range from badly nerfed to useless. I found that every time I levelled up I was struggling to find any skill that was worth investing in: they all either had stupidly long recharge times or scaled poorly (meaning level 1 was good, but any further points added little). I also found it hard to work out what sort of attack was being used against me, so I could work out the best defence. I could play for ages with little touching me, then one nasty would vape me in two turns - and I would have no idea why or how. And the upgrade system for weapons and armour was badly nerfed as well, meaning it was useful at low levels when you couldn't afford it, but rubbish when you could afford it at higher levels.

File under: worth a try, but don't expect much.

Feel sorry for the people who bought "life membership", only a little though because it didn't even seem worth paying the normal monthly sub.

Played through the game online and quite enjoyed it for free after the initial purchase.

I have recently reinstalled it... The last time I got fairly far into it, its too slow to start up and so thast a killer for many but once its flying, its a great game.

I got to a part where I kind of went into hell itself and killed this guy, but what else did I need to do? - Im sure I was getting sick of it by then to be honest, but as I said, Im going to have another go through it soon enough... I did start it up but I seem to be only able to select a sword as my first weapon and the last time I was using a gun Im sure of that?

Early days.

Never seen any issues that required any form of patching.

Last time I played it was on X800GTO2 or maybe X1900XT and this time round Im on 8800 SLI so should be a bit better visually.
