Hello everyone, first post on OC forums though I've been doing quite a bit of reading!
I'm going to build my own PC for the first time and I've got a bit of money to do so. I'm looking to build a topish spec system that's going to last me years...and years..well a while anyway. Here's the spec I've thought of so far and reasons for my choices:
Intel Core i7 950 3.06GHz (Bloomfield) (Socket LGA1366) - Retail £234.99
plenty of grunt
XFX ATI Radeon HD 5850 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card ***Supplied Assasins Creed Game*** £184.99
Not sure about this...I ideally want a mid-range card with HDMI out, preferably with to screen outs but not essential (i guess i could just get another and sli/crossfire if needed later)
Asus P6X58D-E Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard £154.99
I chose this cos it won't break the bank, has 2x sata6gbs and usb3 ports(futureproofing!) triple channel RAM
Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-16000C9 2000MHz Triple Channel Kit (CMX6GX3M3A2000C9) £129.99
Corsair = quality?
Antec 900 Nine Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case - Black £79.99
I want flashing lights!
Corsair Force 40GB F40 2.5" SATA-ll Solid State Drive (CSSD-F40GB2-BRKT) £74.99
For the OS...very keen to see how SSD's perform and have only heard good things..
Corsair TX 650W ATX SLi Compliant Power Supply (CMPSU-650TXUK) £70.99
650W good enough?
Corsair H50-1 High-Performance CPU Watercooler (Socket LGA775/1156/1366/AM2/AM3) £59.98
I like the idea of a watercooled CPU and always thought they we too comlicated. These look piece of p155 to install..
Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM
storage space
The computer is going to be used for work - documents and visual studio - gaming every so often and music/films.
I also want to learn to do a bit of overclocking..speed the i7 up to 4 - 4.2ghz...for which I will need walking through but this can be seen to at a later date. Is this reasonable with this set up, i.e will the cooling be enough and is it a good motherboard to do it on?
I know it's going to be a bit overkill for most of the stuff I will be doing on it but like i say futureproofing and speed. ~1K budget.
Any comments and suggestions appreciated, please tell me if I've got it all wrong!
thanks, chris
