Greetings all!

It's been a fair few years since I've posted so here goes!

Back in 2009 I helped build my first PC with a friend of mine, specs are pretty poor with todays standards! Here's what I currently ru-ru-ru-ru-run....

  • Intel Quad Core 2 Q8200 @3.01GHz Yorkfield
  • ASUS P5Q-E
  • Zalman 9700-NT
  • EVGA GeForce GTX 260
  • Corsair XMS2 8GB DDR2 PC2-8500C5
  • Intel 120GB 510 Series SSD
  • x2 Samsung SpinPoint F1 500GB
  • Lian-Li V1010B
  • Corsair TX 750W
  • Windows 7

I ended up jumping on the console bandwagon and haven't really gamed on a pc for a while. We are in the process of changing around the bedroom and I was contemplating in selling my pc parts and splashing out 2k on a 2015 Macbook Pro... It was only when I recently helped build a work colleagues pc - complete with a Zotac reference 980ti and had a blast on Buck890's 750D rig with a Zotac AMP 980ti that I was sold on upgrading, under one condition....it fits in the newly organised room!

Here's what I've spec'd up so far for a micro ATX build...

  • Intel core i7 4790k
  • Asus Maximus VII Gene Z97 mATX
  • Corsair H100i GTX What are the main differences between the H100i and GTX?
  • MSI GeForce 980 Ti Gaming 6G I like the idea of having a red/black theme, though Gigabyte do the G1 Gaming with the Windforce logo that can be set to light up red - sad I know, though my OCD says it all has to match!
  • Corsair Vengeance Pro Red 2x8GB DDR3 2400MHz
  • Samsung 250GB 850 Evo SSD
  • Corsair Obsidian 350D
  • Corsair AX760 Would this be sufficient? What's the main differences between this 760i/860/860i and would I require a higher powered psu?
  • Corsair Gen 2 sleeved cable kit (Red)
  • Cosair Gen 2 24 pin cable (Red)
  • Windows 8.1 64-Bit
  • x2 Corsair AF140mm fans for up front (Red)
  • x3 Corsair 120mm fans to replace H100i GTX ones and rear case fan I'm getting confused with all the AF and SP models...HELP!

I was orginally looking at the 250D case and going Mini ITX, though it was just a bit to wide for where I plan to place it. Plus going for the larger 350, I could possibly watercool in the future.

What are your thoughts on the specs - would you change anything and why?

Welcome back!

AF = air flow (ok for general case fans)
SP = static pressure (needed if the fan is blowing or pulling air through obstructions, like grills and radiators).

Also, some users have the forum mod that gives the page a black background......black text on it becomes difficult to read.

Nothing; it's just a new design and marketing gimmicks. No real difference at all and they're similar in price so just grab the GTX.

There are reviews of the Gigabyte card having real issues with noise and coil whine. That said, you could have the same issues with any of the cards it's just luck of the draw.

That'll be be plenty, you could look at going 850w but the 760 will be enough for what you're currently planning on putting in it.

See the guy above, it's just Air Flow and Static Pressure. Would recommend changing the stock fans for the H100i though as I used them with my rig for 2 years and they were awful.

If you've got a budget and want some alternative specs go make a post here and people will create builds for you that have all your needs within your budget :)
