Thank you for accepting my registration, this does look like the best company to be in for advice and expertise on upgrading or building a new system :) It's nice that it is a UK website too :p

I've decided to take the plunge and build my own PC for the first time, I have done plenty of research, and am looking for as much spec for my small budget of £400 as possible. I want a pretty future-proof motherboard, and a 'nice' processor, that only the experienced overclockers and gamers would turn their nose to ;)

To be honest it is just a budget build, a standard PC used for (little) gaming, and mainly photoshop work and website development, but that doesn't mean I can't have 1gb of graphics and 4gb of memory just because I can

So here is my specification anyway;

Processor *
AMD PHENOM II X2 550 3.1GHZ BLACK SKT AM3 L2/3 8MB 85W PIB
£65.68

Motherboard
Asus M4A79XTD EVO AM3 790X ATX SND+GLN+1394 HT5200 DDR3 IN
£84.75

Memory
Kingston 4GB 1600MHZ DDR3 NON-ECC CL9 9-9-9-27 DIMM KIT OF 2
£79.90

Graphics
PowerColor HD 5670 PCIE 1GB GDDR5 DVI VGA HDMI Out PCI-E
£88.13

Power Supply
CIT 650W Black Edition PSU 12cm Fan Dual 12v Rail 20+4pin 2x SATA
£27.57

PC Case
Black Mid Tower ATX Case with 12cm Blue LED Fan and LCD Display
£20.43

Hard Drive
Maxtor 320GB Hard Drive SATAII 7200rpm 16MB Cache - OEM
£32.19

DVD-ROM
Sony DVD+-R/RW/DL AD-5240S-0B BLACK +24X8X12X -24X6X12X BULK SATA IN
£14.50

Total: £422 (Rounded to the pound perfectly lol)

* I plan on using that motherboard to unlock the two hidden cores within the Phenom II processor, to turn it into a quad core, giving almost as good performance as the quad core Phenom II, for half the price... That's budget-spending at it's best!!

I would love your advice on what you think I could change for the better, before going and buying these items.

Thank you in advance:D

That is very very good advice, but if I'm honest the power supply is one of the main things I know nothing about?
Do they have different connectors? I dont really want to start splitting cables or anything. Do you have any recommendations?
Thank you
