I just restarted my Hello Fresh Sub after canceling it a while ago due to the fact it took me ages actually getting the meals ready. After a hard day at work the last thing I wanted to do was cook for 2 hours. We recieved our 1st order yesterday and it took me 2 bloddy hours to prepair everythingg. By the time it was ready I was ready for bed. Dont get me wrong the quality of the ingredients is pretty high but I dont have the time to spend 2 hours a night making a meal. Its probably my fault as Im not doing things correctly or whatever but still

I feel like this might be user error, their recipes seem quite simple and everything is portioned out. Should be taking 30 mins max.

I think some of their timings are very optimistic. I'm sure you could do them at that speed if you were just slinging your rubbish into a pile, but if you're trying to fit into a small space or tidy as you go, no chance.

Having said that... I've never taken anything like that long to make one.

The timings are optimistic, but no way it should be taking that long. I also don't think they're that good tbh, alright to mix things up for a week or two but then they in themselves get quite boring and repetitive. I just use the every so often when a 50% off code comes through.

I haven't tried it for a few years but my main complaints were:

Cost - silly money for what you got
Portions - too small
Timing - complete BS
Recipe quality - felt like they were often getting you to cook simple meals that they tried to make fancy by adding things that didn't improve the menu but sounded fancy
Packaging - so much waste from the tiny packs for everything. Here is a packet with 5g of stock, here is another with 10 sesame seeds in it.

I am a good home cook so it just represented poor value for money all things considered. We did it when it was on a good offer and we wanted to try and branch out with some new recipe ideas but ultimately it just wasn't for us.

I'm surprised you manage to make anything from Hello Fresh, the few times I've tried it the quality wasn't great and the amount of meal replacements we got was infuriating.

But what we did receive, took no longer than 20-30 mins to prepare, cook & plate!

... Gousto is better? Still, the only time I felt full eating a Gousto meal was when the mrs wasn't in and I ate for two
Yep. I made a discussion thread on it a few years ago:

Best/god-tier was Mindful Chef; but it is OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive. Next best was Gousto - if only for the recyclable packaging. HelloFresh is dog-turd-tier for environmental impact and salt quantity.

Yeah I wouldn't ever buy them without the 40/50% off deals. They're okay, had some good meals from them.

If you're a slow prepper then you need to pick recipes that don't involve much prep - like peeling and chopping up potatoes. Basically you just want to chuck everything in a pan and let it cook away.

I found the prep took a lot longer than the recipes said but a 40 minute recipe might take me an hour or so. I also found that I had to prep first as there wasn't time to do it in the cooking steps, like fry this for 5 minutes while you simultaneously dice and onion and cut up 5 potatoes that kind of thing.

Gousto is miles better. But also, when we're both busy, we just make sure we have a couple of 'Prepped in 5' or '10 minute' meals, which, you guessed it, either take 5 minutes to prep and stick in the oven, or 10 minutes total to cook....for days when we're both knackered and can't be arsed.

So much choice with Gousto as well, and it's not all slathered in bloody creme fraiche like Hello Fresh.
