Hello Nest (Google) Doorbell....

We have decided to install a smart doorbell, and as we are fully wrapped up in the Google eco system, the Google one seems the sensible choice.
As we have a powered, wired chime already, and the fact that the wired version is currently on offer, it seems a sensible choice.
However, after looking into it further, and checking my current chime, the transformer built into the chime will not suffice as its only 8v.
It looks like I have a few options, and was interested in what others have done, as most modern built houses will have a similar type of chime.
Do I:

1. Forget the existing chime. Buy a bell transformer to power the Google Doorbell, Modify the existing chime box to use as a housing, and use my various Google devices to notify.
2. Purchase a different chime to cope with the higher voltage required for the doorbell, buy a bell transformer, and find a neat way of combining the two.
3. Purchase a different brand of doorbell that will work from my existing chime transformer, but it must work with Google.

I have not ruled out the Google battery option, as it would appear that my 8v transformer would be enough to keep it charged, but I can only find it in White. (Wife says NO )

Thoughts appreciated.

We had a similar issues. In the end, we used the multiple Google Nest devices around the house to announce the doorbell. The benefit is it can also announce who is at the door (if it recognises them). No chime needed.

I use Google nest speakers and visitor announcements for mine.

If we did have a chime I'd still use Google speakers as I can hear when I have my noise cancelling headphones on as speaker is right next to me in my office.

Just change the transformer to a higher voltage one, easy enough and everything available at screwfix

Thank you. I have looked at this. It's just making it look nice. The chime box is not compatible with higher voltage, so I thought about ripping out it's internals and placing the transformer inside, but it won't fit. I could remove the chime box completely, but upon inspection, the decorator painted around it.

We went 2). We needed a new transformer on ours when it was installed. Our Electrician didn’t install it correctly and it fried the wireless connector thing that comes in box. Google replaced that and I bought a newer chime (Honeywell from memory) that was higher voltage as that was my diagnosis of the issue. That has never worked (and is turned off now in app) but the home mini announcements work fine so I’ve just lived with it. I suspect I’ve installed the upgraded chime incorrectly.

From memory it was quite particular about chimes and Honeywell ones seemed the most compatible. My overall conclusion was it was too clever by half in terms of trying to support every possible doorbell setup out of box.
