Don't know why, but this part of the forum caught my eye again after quite some time. Used to do some SETI a few years back but stopped for electricity and overheating reasons.

I feel inspired to come back now though, with the free electricity and watercooling. Few questions though...

What's the general consensus on running multiple projects these days? Ie. I used to run SETI and another one, climate prediction I think. Idea being if one didn't have any WUs the other one probably would. Best just to run one? Don't know.

We still using BOINC? Had a quick read of the FAQ sticky but don't know how much of it still applies. What are people using these days?

Any recommendations for projects?

Google probably is my friend... but I'd rather trust the forum :D

Well, I think it's working. FahMon is reporting the progress to be at 0% now for about 10 minutes. But it has downloaded work. And CPU usage is hovering at 50%.

Yes it's a dual core. I'm slightly wary of running two copies for temperature reasons I guess. Maybe I'll try it out though.

At the moment, FahMon messages is saying:

Client has an unknown state (Unable to find a complete frame)

That sounds like something that shouldn't happen

EDIT: Log just said it's completed 1250 of 125000 steps, so it must be doing something. I'll leave it alone for a while.

EDIT 2: 1% now, with an ETA. All working then. :D

Ok. New question. Thought I may as well try running 2 copies of it when I noticed this in the guide...

Put another copy of the console in a *different* directory. Otherwise they’ll interfere with each other. I like to put one in C:\Fold1 and another in C:\Fold2. You do the same things as with a single client; same with the shortcut, same with the registry edits. It's just that you have to do each twice. Using the -local flag in this instance is especially important.

Where is the -local flag going exactly?

Very nice guide by the way Billy. Helped a lot :)

Another question. I seem to have it running on both cores now but I notice according to FahMon that both clients are running the same project number. Are they meant to be different?

Running on an X2 4400. Not overclocked. Got it running on both cores fine with no real increase in temperature so I'm happy with that. Don't think I can use my GPU since it's nVidia.

Did manage to somehow lose the two projects I was working on. Probably because I terminated the processes. Thought it would just pick up where it left off on the next reboot. Guess not. Any proper way to temporarily pause work?

Running both as services. I'll avoid closing them from task manager from now on then. I tried msconfig first but it didn't actually stop them when I unchecked them.

Hmm. No idea why I was trying to use msconfig and not services. Must have been tired. Thanks for pointing that out. :)

Bit miffed at losing the two anyway. They were around 50% done. Ah well, live and learn.

Small followup to all of this. It's been running fine on my PC for a while now, no problems there

Trying to load it on my Dad's PC now though. He doesn't have it on reliably enough to be meeting deadlines so I set it to request WUs without deadlines in the config. That's the only thing I've setup differently compared to mine. And it's not getting any work :(

Here's what the log says...
