I am everywhere...
The cartoon series about a vampire trained to kill other vampires? I have been watching the series on dvd lately and woah, the cartoon is sick (in a good way).
Gruesome killings, mythical voodoo, crazy moves and weapons just to name a few.

Anyone else seen it?

Hellsing, one of the few Anime to be set in the U.K. and have dub that reflects that ;)

I really like it, and cannot wait for the new OVA's to start making it's way over here as the TV series is based off a manga/graphic novel seties and only covers part of it (the OVA series is restarting and following the print version more closely). :)
The whole Alucard/Integra thing has me wondering what happened, I can guess at it *spoilers*the Hellsing Family obviously captured Alucard, but I get the impression he wouldn't stay captured unless he had an ulterier motive and wanted it.*spoilers*

I'm interested to see how Seras developes in the OVA, as she starts of very unsure in the TV series, but starts to get the hang of things towards the end of the series

Now that is a big gun ;)

Hellsing is fantastic. Watched the lot, then rewatched it, its that good. :)

Seen the first OVA already, and  the "Priest Fight" is really good in it. Its also slightly more gritty than the other, which I like.

That' s good. You mentioned something about books, im guessing it is based on a comic right?

I got a few series on dvd from lovefilm. Did you know that the Old house keeper (Butler) had powers as well?

The dude in red has even more crazy powers i havent seen before, he turned into a dragon of some sort. Check out the weapon he uses, whenever he brings it out there, i like the way you see it reflecting and the signature on it.......(im getting exicted gotta go!!) :D

Oh my god Werewolf, you are a wizard, that's the series im watching! That gun is dangerous man.....*spoilers spoilers** :D

Yup, it's based on a japanese manga that is released every month or so (I think it started in one of the Japanese monthly manga magazines, but also gets released as a TPB every few months).

One of the other things I've heard about, but not actually read is that apparently in the manga the Catholic church with their enforcer (their Alucard equivilent - the nutty scot), have a much bigger role in the story.

Aye I knew that, but I don't think the TV series ever explained iy.

See, why dont we make cartoon series as good as that here, instead we come out with Dennis the menace and teletubbies? Have we got any thing as good as that from here? Just curious.

I also have the feeling, some movie directors tend to take idea from mangan series and translate it on to the big screen. I just started watching animes and man i am impressed.

We get some stuff similar, but generally not a lot :(
Most western audiences (especially in America) tend to associate animation with kids :(

It's also worth remembering that something like Hellsing would have been shown in the late night slot in Japan (midnight to 2am or there abouts), and we tend to get repeats or ancient films in that slot :)
Not to mention that a lot of what makes it over here is the cream of the crop, there is a huge amount of very poor quality anime but it's generally weeded out (it doesn't get licenced, or if it does it's because it came as part of a deal*).

As for directors copying some anime related ideas, yup that happens, but it also happens the other way round (Bubblegum Crisis is heavily influenced by Blade Runner for example).

*Apparently it's not unheard of for a US distributor to have to take a mediocre series to get the rights to a much better one.

I enjoyed Hellsing it was one of the first anime series I got hold of.

I'm looking forward to the OVA release though as apparently after the vampire brothers the series just made everything up as the manga weren't out after that at the time. It did get a bit silly at the end though so it will be interesting to see what the writers intended.

Alucard is just so over the top though, it's great, especially compared to Seras' innocence. :D

Hellsing is excellent. It's a shame that in the series, they kind of ended it without really finishing the story. It was building up to a big revelation that never happened. The existance of all these "neo" vampires was never properly explained. I'm interested in watching the OVAs but I wish they were a continuation of the series rather than a complete restart of the plot.
