So I normally just used to use ear buds but I was wondering as I'll be needing a new helmet anyway are there any good ones with speakers built in for music that actually work a high speeds?

Most of the decent helmets have removable pads for speakers, but Schuberth are the only ones I know of with an official optional speaker set.

As above, if you get quality then should be find at motorway speeds. I have the Sena 20S comms kit which has speakers which I can hear fine at 80+ (on private roads ¬.¬).

Sena 20S is probably an overkill if you just want some music, but it shows that it is definitely possible.

I wouldn't get built in speakers unless you can confirm the make they use in there. I've seen a lot of cheap helmets with built in speakers/bluetooth, think it was something like £120 so probably terrible.

anyopne make speakers that can actually be heard at motorway speeds?

I use a Midland Alan motorcycle helmet comms set, with the 2-pin jack.
Device of your choice at 85% volume gives perfectly audible sound at (ahem) miles an hour down the motorway, even if you don't have a windscreen.

Will have a look.

I can't decide what helmet to get :(

Every day riding all kinds of weather often very long motorway stints.

So ideally little buffeting, light and quiet is my ideal.

Any ideas?

What shape is your head? That's what it'll come down to - doesn't matter what the helmet is if it's doing your head in (literally!) after 20 miles!

I have an Arai/Shoei shaped head. My Arai fits me great, but I tried on a Shoei NXR a while ago and it was bliss - so light and a huge visor gap it felt like you weren't wearing a helmet. And the GT-Air fitted me great too, but was just out of my price range when I was buying my kit. Meant to be a very quiet helmet too.

Sena announced this week their 'smart helmet', carbon fibre with intergrated bluetooth 4.1 and 'Intelligent noise-control'.

I see the post on Facebook, Sena replied to a pricing question of around $700, so that should be around £500ish here.

cool i was just lookign at the sena kits for the shoei gt air on jwebbike world :p

Will be interesting to see how it works, it presumably plays noise opposite to the wind noise through the speakers to 'cancel' it out?
seems so

Designed by riders, for riders, the Smart Helmet offers all the control of noise-canceling headphones while still allowing you to hear vital audio cues like sirens, traffic, and your RPMs. Simply snap in the INC™ module and toggle the “on” button to activate the system. The module analyzes sound information from an array of four networked microphones and adjusts in real time to phase out harmful helmet noise.

Shoei GT Air. Best helmet I've ever owned. Just about to get another one.

Yeah I'll jump on this wagon. On the proviso you can get along with the internal visor liking to fog up if you're covering your shnozzle on a cold bright winter's morning.

It's comfortable, feels a better finish inside than my old xr1100, almost at the Chaser V level. Quieter than that and my old Arai chaser v though.

But yes it is spendy. Does have cavities for speakers. Which I'm now looking at... though I did just pay ultimateear... a lot to rebuild my wired earplugs.

I've got speakers in my Nolan N105. They're OK but I find that in order to hear them at motorway speeds I have to have them so loud that they are distracting at low speeds.

Would be even cooler if they built in the comms kit.

Edit: looks like they will as an add-on. Nice!
