Tearing my hair out here. Updated my PC from 980Ti in SLI to a single 1080Ti. Everything is fine except Skyrim (original, not SE).

Basically - It won't run exclusive fullscreen anymore, and has flickering in all loading screens, map, and terrible ingame performance because of this. It will run in 'windowed' mode which removes the flicker, but the performance is horrible and why would anyone ever play in windowed mode anyway.

I've been playing/ modding this game heavily for the last 5 years and am gutted. I have the sweetest custom ENB on it I basically did myself, and a shed load of mods, and I'm at a loss as how to fix it.

Things I've done or tried:

1. The obvious i.e Skyrimprefs.ini has bFull screen=1 set. Tried making the file read only too. Also deleted SKyrim.ini and Skyrimprefs.ini to make them recompile
2. Verified integrity of game files through Steam
3. Different Nvidia drivers (older and newer)
4. Made sure the Skyrim exe, launcher exe or steam etc exe's aren't set to 'compatibility mode' as described here https://steamcommunity.com/app/72850/discussions/0/610573751158077787/
5. Dabbled with 'Onetweak' from Nexus mods, just to experiment
6. Updated the enb d3d dlls to the latest version
7. Made sure I'm using the latest version of SKSE
8. Alt-Enter doesn't work
9. Turning off Afterburner, Rivatuner, Steam overlay also doesn't fix it

None of it works. Just will not run in proper exclusive fullscreen like it always did before. The only change to my system is switching from 980Ti SLI to a single 1080Ti. When installing the 1080Ti and trying different drivers I've used DDU in safe mode to clean everything out and done clean driver only installs (like always).

I'm really at a loss here and absolutely gutted. Can anyone help??

If you're on Windows 10 did you right click the exe and in compatibility settings ticked "Disable Fullscreen Optimisations"? This will force it to run in true fullscreen as Microsoft has forced games to run in a hybrid borderless window by default since the Creators Update.

just so you know using DDU can be a very bad idea.

however is it this game only?

Right, bit of progress

It is actually using fullscreen :o :o

The way I normally tell is to have the Gsync indicator showing via the NVCP, set to display for full screen only apps. This had been turned off, so with this and the performance being very poor, flickering etc, I assumed it was a non fullscreen issue.

Seems like the culprit was my enb files. For some reason the setup I had that was working perfectly well on my 980Ti's was spazzing out with my 1080Ti, tanking performance and causing mass flicker. I removed all the enb files and started adding a few at a time, and I seem to have fixed it for now and have everything almost back to as before!

Phew, thanks for the suggestions and help though lads.
