Hi,

I though I would give building a pc a go, kind of regretting it!

Here is my kit;

AMD Piledriver 4350 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-346-AM

MSI 970a-g45 motherboard http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-214-MS

MSI hd 7770 graphics card http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-184-MS

Cooler master elite 430 case http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-328-CM

8gb ram http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-033-TG

1tb Hardrive http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-366-WD

PSU, have used an old cooler master 650w and a brand new corsair 450w

I put all pieces together following the manuals, and watched a few videos online and followed those directions.

Wen I press the power on button of the case, the fans turn on, 4 LEDs on the motherboard turn green, psu fan works, CPU fan works, graphics card fan works.....but no display. (Note, I am connecting to a TV, via a hdmi cable...don't have monitor).

This motherboard has no integrated graphics, so have to connect through graphics.

I have tried building outside box on cardboard as suggested, and just used minimum components, and same problem.

I have tried swapping psu as it was a 2nd hand one, new one did exactly the same.

Tried a lower level graphics card, same problem.

I have tried swapping the memory, nothing.

There is no beep coming from the motherboard even though I have the speaker connected.

When I took the heat sink off the CPU to check seated correctly, it has left a white coating on the CPU, didn't know if this was normal...it is the fan that came with the CPU so I imaged it was.

I have googled this all night and can't find a solution, all the suggested ones don't work for me.

Could it be any of the following that I have read;

The bios needs flashing, and to do this I need to run an older CPU first?

Connecting via VGA will work, as I need to instal drivers for hdmi?? ( I have tried this, dvi to VGA)

All parts I am now using are brand new??
Am I missing something really obvious??

Thanks for any help!

Yep, 24 pin connected and also 8 pin CPU power connected. TV on hdmi channel, and when I tried VGA had that channel with no result! TV is on but says no display. TV does work.

Tried removing motherboard battery too for 10 mins, that didn't work either?

I'm thinking one of the parts I have bought is faulty...but it's more likely something I'm missing!

I tried the CMOS reset, yes the 6 pin is in the graphics card ( when I put a lesser graphics card in, it didn't even need any power connected!).

I'm not sure what you mean by bios revisions?

Thanks

I can't see any bios revision on the motherboard, (apart from ms-7693 ver 2.0). The box it came in says 'supports am3+ CPU with new bios (b2 stepping ready). It also says supports AMD FX / phenom II / Athlon II/ Sempron processor in a AM3+ socket.

The tv I am trying is a bush, has 1 hdmi port. It says no video available. I have tried on my other tv which has 2 hdmis, and still nothing??

Thanks

Speaker is in the correct pins.

Have tried assembling outside, no luck?

I'm assuming all the parts I have listed are compatible?

So...is it that I have a faulty item? Or is it that the bios needs updating before I can run the CPU? Or is there something else?

Thanks

I'll give that a go tomorrow trying the different connections to the tv, I'll report back.

What are my options if still doesn't work, can I get replacements from overclockers?

Thanks for your help

Hi,

I borrowed a monitor from work, connected to VGA, still nothing!

My msi hd 7770 graphics card sounds like it is speeding up, then slowing down continuosly?? When I change to a video card that doesn't have a fan there is obviously no sound, but still no display/post?!

So, no matter whether build in the case or outside with minimal components, all connected...I get no display.

I called OC, whilst they said can't diagnose, when he looked at my order he first said the RAM, as its known to have errors?! I have 2 sticks, have tried in different slots, using 1/2, still nothing. I don't have ther ram, but I can't see it being this as this wouldn't make VGA rev...plus I am not getting any beeps whatsoever.

Can anyone help??! Is it the motherboard that is faulty?

I can't test if the bios needs updating beforehand as don't have a spare CPU, but would this problem show above symptoms?

Hoping someone knows!! (Wish I had gone for pre-built!)

Thanks

Can I ask what makes you say that?

Would that still make the gpu rev?

If I havent got and old cpu to do this, do I need to send back? I thought OC would only take back if faulty?

Could it not be anything else?

Thanks

Hi,

OC are sending a courier to pick up the motherboard and CPU tomorrow for testing.

Can I just check, im assuming I just box it up in the box it came with, and then but in another box, addressed to overclockers? Is there a department I send it to? Is there anything else I need to do?

Thanks

The outcome from RMA was that both motherboard and CPU work. It was tested with all 4 memory slots full (4x4gb), and 850w psu.

Reading my original issue above (no post/no beep) does this mean that either

A) I need a psu as powerful as 850w (which they used for testing)?
B) My Ram is faulty (when I originally called OC they said had been probs with that ram, but the 'no beep' confused them)?
C) I need to fill all 4 ram slots?
D)something else

Everything was connected correctly, so I am thinking it is the ram? Looking at the above how much PSU should I need, I would have thought I had a powerful enough one?

Thanks for any help
